“Carries himself taller” ?! He is 186cm mate. Nowhere close to McCartins 195cm.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Thu 29 Apr 2021 8:53pmWell said and a good argument.Devilhead wrote: ↑Thu 29 Apr 2021 7:55pmHawkins listed as 198cmGhost Like wrote: ↑Thu 29 Apr 2021 7:41pm Height is interesting as Paddy was /is not much taller than Petracca & severely limited in positional moves.
Paddy listed as 195cm
Petracca listed as 186cm
Paddy took 10 marks in one game and 9 marks in two other games and several 7 mark games - sounds to me like like a forward who could get on his bike and move around
I understand that Petracca is a gun and agree that we should have taken him - like many on here he was the one I wanted us to draft at the time
however
I am just getting a bit sick and tired of forumites whacking Paddy saying he was terrible when statistical evidence says otherwise for a young developing key position forward
The Hawkins comparisons are not made up crap - without his concussions issues Paddy might well be kicking 4 to 6 a game now
Alas we will never know just like when he was drafted we never knew he would suffer from concussion issues
The marks you talk about, did they end up in shots on goal. It is an era where backs peel off once forwards are out of range. I'm quite confident that in the possession game we now play, many players have multiple marks.
It's the ones inside 50 that count. I never saw anything to get excited about, his height being that of a modern midfielder. I think Flatracca is taller than 186 or certainly carries himself taller via ability, attitude & presence.
The decision to pick McCartin.

Re: The decision to pick McCartin.
I think everyones biggest issue was that they talked themselves around in circles
- "Hes NOT FIT" - He is getting fitter, he has the pedigree ..... (not all well bred race horses succeed)
- "Hes FAT" - He has dropped weight and getting into the acceptable range
- He has diabetes - We can manage it
- One Positional player - Key forwards are difficult to obtain (and hold) when they become good
Whereas on the Upside
-- He is determined to succeed - No one asked why then was he 'unfit and fat". Yes he was getting into shape. But an 18 year old draftee should be top condition naturally!!!
I think they ran out of red flags and started to use the wrong ones.
I wonder how long the discussion For / Against Petracca lasted
- For - He will be a GUN (17 other clubs would have picked him first every time)
- Against - ??? There was questions over some of his personality. But that is stretching for any other downside ....
Interesting
I do note that they were considering Peter Wright as well. Another dud.
Recruiters are not perfect. Only about half the top 10 (less than half the top 20) make it to a decent career.
But the absolute stand outs dont have lots of red flags (eg Heeney, Petracca, Brawshaw were all touted as gold).
-- Heeney was a Sydney gift and would have been number 1 in an ideal world ---

I'm glad we never drafted or traded for Josh Schache, he's not an AFL footballers jock strap, another VFL star.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: The decision to pick McCartin.
Game #5 for East Coast Sydney Swans and no concussions.
Paddy is being used mostly coming off the bench.
Looks fit, skills are rusty.
Took a huge clunking pack destroying mark in this week that blew my mind. He incidentally got his hand thrashed by a player crunch and went off in 1st quarter. Never returned, they say it was precaution and its a single bone fracture and he will play next week.
He's looking better every game. Not getting more than 30 mins a game but it seems to be working.

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Only McCartin .....
He full punches Black and ends up on the pine with a hand injury. Meanwhile Black runs the game out with a sore jaw .....
Has there ever been a bigger powder puff ?

Stupid stupid stupid!
The other guy was probably giving him s***. So what. Is McCartin so stupid to get sucked in?

His good record might save him, but commentators have suggested others have received 6 weeks for the same offence.

Barry Hall went from Saints to Swans. Punched a guy behind play.
Paddy went from (you get the picture)
Don't play for the Swans then

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Paddy got 5 weeks, blood sugar level out of whack and so he was agitated and went whack.
