Joyce
Joyce has had 2 games in a row.
But has he done enough with McKenzie and probably Frawley asking to be let back into the team defence ?
Carlisle and Long in the bad books but wanting to play in defence too.

Re: Joyce
He was okay against the Hawks. Seems like he's a solid enough option to fill in when there's a suitable matchup but I doubt he'll ever be best 22. You'd want more rebound/interceptions from a quality third tall

Re: Joyce
I could be wrong about this but I think that the plan is that Frawley will replace him over the next few weeks which should allow Howard more freedom.

Re: Joyce
For some reason I like him, but is there an obvious advantage he has over Oscar Clavarino?
Joyce 195cm
Clav 197 cm
I realise that Joyce is listed as 195kg (430 lbs) on Wikipedia and that’s pretty remarkable.

Re: Joyce
Actually looks ok from close to me. Good size, athletic, brave, hard at it. Will improve with the run and confidence of playing in a winning side. Obviously the office junior in defence but held his own and complimented others I thought. Hope he gets a fair crack. Will certainly put pressure on Highmore, Long and McKenzie to find/maintain form and at a stretch could be a swingman. Glad he was preferred to Wood, but noting one's a specialist forward of course.

Not sure but it’s not looking good for him. Time will tell.whiskers3614 wrote: ↑Sun 02 May 2021 12:43pmSo is Carlisle officially finished, or just down on form?

Re: Joyce
What's going on with Carlisle doesn't matter. Everyone will draw their own conclusions anyway, if he plays and plays well he is a gun, if he plays and doesn't play well he has an attitude problem, if he doesn't play he is falling out of favour. Reports say he has had back spasms.
What does matter is who is going to be a 2nd key defender if Carlisle isn't.
As the tallest of the bunch, I dont think it will be Clavarino. As the most experienced you'd think it will be Frawley when he comes back.
Battle has the skills but seems destined to be a third tall, back up KPD, swing man.
We desperately need to free up Wilkie a little but for now he will have to do.
Webster is too small and Highmore has a bit to learn.
Joyce has done ok.

Re: Joyce
Joyce is heaps better than Carlisle. He runs, chases, tackles, hits the ball hard. His body language suggests aggression and desire. He doesn’t spit the dummy and point the finger like Carlisle. In short, he has a red-hot go! He’s learning and will only get better.

Re: Joyce
I’d like to see him line up against a quality opponent in a tough match where we’re not on top from the start and beat him
The idea of Joyce in a final... at this stage, frankly scares me

What about one on one in the goal square in a grand final with 30 sec to go. We’re 5 points up.

Re: Joyce
The match report at Sandy has Highmore dominating to half time. TBH... given Tom’s upside, personally I’d prefer to pump the games into him with the view of developing him over the longer term

Re: Joyce
Plays like a small defender, could he be first choice on the small forwards? Benefit is that he won't be outreached in the air, and can compete on the inevitable mismatch.

He did his job, hope he plays against the Coasters.
Looking forward to the Ming v Bing shootout.
