Ben Long
Have to say I'm not a fan of the way he has been used this year.
Round 1 he was superb against GWS and I think a big reason why we won.
Rd2 poor against Melbourne, dropped.
Rd 3 used as sub.
Rd 4 used as sub.
Rd 5 unsused sub.
Rd 6 poor against Port, dropped.
How is a player meant to find form when being used like this? I really hope this week he gets a chance to play in the VFL and find some form again, we are a better team with him in there and in form in my opinion.
I get that some of his actions are frustrating and he can be a frustrating player at times, but using him as a sub when he's out of form seems really silly, would rather him in the 2s finding form.

I disagree. I think he's crap.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Ben Long
He's been awful but yes, he's totally been used badly. To be dropped but used as a sub for 3 weeks is just stupid.lewdogs wrote: ↑Sat 01 May 2021 12:18am Have to say I'm not a fan of the way he has been used this year.

Hopefully he gets it together back at Sandy..

Re: Ben Long
He belongs in the GOP folder with McKenzie, Dunstan and Lonie. VFL only. 50 games, 5 years, 11 possessions per game average. That's a pretty fair sample. Not up to it. In racing parlance, prefer others.

Re: Ben Long
Showed a fair bit last year in the backline, only had one year in that position. I like what he brings when on form in that position, he's a good user and harder than a cats head. The Billings Method wrote: ↑Sat 01 May 2021 3:41am He belongs in the GOP folder with McKenzie, Dunstan and Lonie. He was good in round 1, but been a s*** show for him since then. Hopefully he can go to the 2s, get some continuity and come good again. Worth remembering he was played in the forward line for two years when his best position is back. A bit like Hind.

Move him back to the forward line. He can’t be any worse than Lonie.

Re: Ben Long
Dont hold back...
I think he is one of those players that just needs to go back to basics of stopping his opponent firstly, then winning the ball. He looks like he is playing confused and second guessing himself. When in form he is in our best 22, at the moment he is not.
Im confident he will return to form!

Re: Ben Long
I wish I was wrong and I don't like bagging the players but he plays stupid by playing the man, looks totally confused and turns the ball over when he gets it.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sat 01 May 2021 12:44pmDont hold back...

Re: Ben Long
Another reach in the draft, well done!
Phantoms had us with Shai Bolton
He went 4 picks later - would’ve been nice
Also Parfitt and Z Fisher were the next picks!!!

Re: Ben Long
Oh, more examples of poor recruiting.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Ben Long
With our club's amazing record of development,
Bolton would be stuck in Sandy playing in swamps, getting the odd freak goal, but getting under 10 touches a game.
Would be delisted and go work as a bricklayer.
2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: Ben Long
Isn’t crap but has been far from great.
Prefer him as an attacking high half forward to be honest. He lost his way down back and is now a liability with his reckless play.

One of those players who is half VFL, half AFL level. Needs to control his temper, otherwise wont get games.

Re: Ben Long
Long was a best 22 player last year.
So much so we damn well appealed at the tribunal for him TWICE.
Down on form, down on confidence. Needs his head pulled in in a hurry.
String a couple of games together at Sandy and he will definitely be in the running again.

Potentially very good player who is being developed and used horribly.

Re: Ben Long
He needs to have a look at the blokes in the team who are tough but ...generally stay disciplined. You’re playing to win games of footy, not to show how tough you are in a street fight. One of the young blokes was a good example. I saw Jack Bytel lay some tough tackles and stand up for Zac Jones when Zac was bumped late.bigred wrote: ↑Sat 01 May 2021 9:33pm Long was a best 22 player last year.

Paddy, Zac, Josh Battle, Clark and of course our captain does it regularly. Gears and Jimmy and Dougal Howard also very tough and courageous. Always try and inflict pain on your opponents (contested marks or tackling etc..) and stand up for your team mates with out giving away frees or 50m penalties.
Sheees...nearly forgot the other tough nut...(good on him for trying to lift the team last week) The D Train in Dan McKenzie

Re: Ben Long
IMO deserved to be dropped however I still think he is in our best 22 . Hopefully a stint at Sandy will see him regain some confidence & much needed form
