Re: Is Higgins any good!?
He is not worth a 2nd round pick in this years draft, which is full of quality midfielders! He will never have the running capacities to play midfield. Its the same old chest nut for the Saints recruitment, who misread where their list is at and got carried away with over rating opposition players. All to the detriment of their own future.
Richmond would be rubbing their hands together having our 2nd round pick this year, just as Fremantle were with the Hill trade. When it comes to recruiting we are are the slowest learners in the history of the game. The recruiters and list managers change over time, but they all make the same mistakes as their predecessors attempting the quick list fixes.
Have a look at our recent history (2009-2010) when we acheived near sucess, it was all achieved by getting our draft picks right leading up to that period. So what do we do since then, is not put the right people or resources into recruitment. We have been recruiting other teams cast offs for 100 years - when will it cease?

When our club stops blaming coach after coach and starts realising that we need to get our recruiting right (what you and I and bind Freddy realise, and have realised for years) - by poaching and recruiting the best recruiters.

Re: Is Higgins any good!?
Actually think he has been best small forward this year so far. Wouldnt know if he can play mid as has not been given even a burst in there. Surely with how beaten our midfield is a 5 min burst couldn't be worse than what we have had at times.
Wasn't a fan at recruitment time but changing my mind.

Re: Is Higgins any good!?
Good finisher and decent shot for goal.
Smart player around the ball.
Doesn't lack any heart.
Looks to be a pretty attacking player with little defensive side to his game.
Doesn't appear to have the endurance and running power to play midfield.
Doesn't have a body shape to become a runner IMO.

Re: Is Higgins any good!?
I don't reckon he is fit, otherwise we'd be using him more through the midfield in the Gresham role.
I'd prefer him to Lonie any day of the week

Re: Is Higgins any good!?
Looks to me like he’s been the clear standout of the small forwards
Doesn’t seem to be as fit as he could be... don’t know what that’s about but he’s a better combination of highly skilled and a true footballer
I like him and think he’s a keeper

Re: Is Higgins any good!?
To be honest... we don’t have a lot kicking down the door to play.
I’m a bigger fan of Butler then Lonie... and I also reckon a lot of midfielders that could rest in a forward pocket have similar style to Lonie hence Dan offers more versatility
As a starting point... I’d drop Lonie and go from there
Would rather see Bytel line up for 4 quarters and rest forward if needed for patches (or other mids)

Re: Is Higgins any good!?
There is virtually no one at Sandy that is even close to AFL standard. And that surely is allowing players to be comfortable with their performance. Agree Lonie needs to be dropped and now that this year has quickly changed from being a finals aspirant team to a team that is in a rebuild then agree, Leave Bytel and Byrnes in for the remainder of the year.skeptic wrote: ↑Mon 26 Apr 2021 12:28pmTo be honest... we don’t have a lot kicking down the door to play.

Re: Is Higgins any good!?
His reaction to kicking that freak goal was a worry. Hardly anyone celebrated. - He apologised to his opponent afterward for kicking the freak goal. Just the morale in the group has completely disappeared.

He lacks that zest he showed when he was at Richmond.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

Re: Is Higgins any good!?
If Lonie contributed more as a forward (i.e provided more goal assists or inside i50’s) then maybe he’s worth persevering with, but that’s not what’s happening. His disposal efficiency is low.
He’s played 80 games plus. He needs to do more
Here’s a comparison of his career stats versus Steven Motlop. Motlop was drafted at pick 39. We picked up Lonie at pick 41

Re: Is Higgins any good!?
So instead of recruiting the players that the recruiters recruited, we will recruit the recruiters that originally recruited the players we recruited, that we are now not happy with?samoht wrote: ↑Mon 26 Apr 2021 12:04pmWhen will it cease?Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Mon 26 Apr 2021 11:27am Have a look at our recent history (2009-2010) when we acheived near sucess, it was all achieved by getting our draft picks right leading up to that period. Re: Is Higgins any good!?
Hw showed no joy after kicking golas in Round One, either. Question is, is he happy at the Saints? Does he think he's made a big mistake? Is something seriously amiss down there?

When you kick a goal out of your arse it isn't good form to celebrate. His reaction acknowledged that it was a fluke. Move on.

I think he's better than Lonie & Butler but IMO we can't play all 3 it's just not working
