Options for changes thin

Post: # 1896921Post older saint »

Ok so last night wasnt good enough and 2 out of 3 weeks means changes are needed, however the cupboard seems thin. I know the Reserves play today so perhaps that will shed some light but looking at options:

Marshall
Jones

McKenan
Wood
Allison
Joyce
Connolly
Claravino
Alabakis
Highmore
Kent

Not available :
Just back or coming back from injury
- Ryder ( week away most likely)
- Frawley
- Byrnes

Injured
Geary
Paton
Hannebery
Gresham

So assuming Webster (Inj) the possible outs Hunter, Dunstan, Long, Hill, Carlisle, Lonie/Butler

Perhaps throw Higgins through the midfield, Highmore perhaps comes in for Webster, Where does Battle play does he go forward and back up ruck and Joyce gets a go?

Wiser heads than mine will decide this but the cupboard is a bit thin and has a lot of the sameness about it.

Long will come in for Webster and Marshall for Hunter. plus maybe anyone who plays a half decent game today for any number of proven duds.

Is Byrnes over his hammy already? Like to give big Sam one game at least, but the problem we have is the mental game, and swapping players around wont make much difference at this stage

How does that make you better?!

If he’s only back up, but he’s never going to play

Why is he even on the list??

I think people saw glimpses at ESS where he has some ok games
Doesn’t guarantee he produces that now
It’s always so easy after the fact
Facts are right now he’s not up to it

If he’s our back up

And both of our ruckmen are out and he doesn’t play

He may as well finish up

Anyone know why Paddy did not end up playing in the VFL? Or did he play?

Connolly, Clavarino & Byrnes please - doesn't have to be next match but its time to see what they can do

Alabakis delist - 3 possessions in a VFL match wont cut it in the AFL

Nothing to draw from in the VFL right now. Maybe Byrnes after a month of game time.

Out: Webster (inj), Hunter, McKenzie, Dunstan
In: Ryder, Marshall, Jones

B: Coffield, Howard, Wilkie
HB: Clark, Carlisle, Sinclair
C: Hill, Steele, Ross
HF: Higgins, Marshall, Billings
F: Butler, King, Membrey

Foll: Ryder, Crouch, Jones
Int: Battle, Bytel, Lonie, Long

Sub: McKenzie

For the love of god please no Hunter or Dunstan in a saints jumper ever again.

What a bind. Hopefully RoMa is ready to go. That would be a massive leg up. DMac and Dunny are obviously going to be dropped (forever). And Longy will be lucky to get a game. Mmmm! Scratching head vigorously, nup!...nothing also.

Probably just going to have to let this lazy selfish bunch continue on and hope they give a sh1t at some stage.

Our midfielders ... Steele, Crouch, Bytel, Dunstan .. are all majorly "inside."
You're not going to get much run and spread from them.
And, they are doing okay, considering the duplication/overkill.

We just need to add more outside run ... and if Billings, Hill, McKenzie can play as they did against WCE and provide that outside run and spread - the balance we need - we should be okay.
We need Zac Jones fit and firing, of course - he is ultra important. We missed him.

There's also the option of Wood and Kent ... if we get desperate for outside run (if we lose faith in McKenzie and even Hill).
Might be wise to rotate between all of them (apart from Billings, and Jones) from time-to-time to keep everyone on their toes.

Wood wouldn't have done any worse than Hill.

I hope not I know you rate Long but to me he was dropped from this team and came on as sub and showed me nothing that says the original decision was a mistake.

Will likely be shot down for this but despite his statistics, i thought Hunter Clarks effort and energy were terrible in this game, and against Essendon. Three or four times in each game where i noticeably saw someone going half effort only to realise it was Hunter each time. He has a real knack for getting the ball and is silky smooth when he gets it, but i feel he also needs to add a run hard and tackle component to the game when he doesnt have it. Its a terrible look and i feel its part of the issue. Just creates loser energy around the team. We need players on the field who are ferocious and give 110%.

Think it is a maturity thing. Reminds me of a young Dal Santo between when he was a regular before Lyon dropped him . From then on was an All Aust or on the brink of. KId is a gun who has got comfortable with the offensive sid eof the game, next step is to get comfortable being uncomfortable with the defensive side. Easier said than done.

Without blind panic....

Byrnes, Clav and Connoly.... Two more weeks pulling those numbers and they need to be tapping on the door.

Just on Clarke. He did pretty well really. He was clearly frustrated. He kept trying though. His attitude did come through though with that 50m penalty. And the free before that where he too a very long time to return the ball. He will find the balance between going that extra step or clearing.

"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

This is not a joke. Seriously and obviously, McKernan is not a favorite around here. I have hardly seen him perform but in the depths of one of our defeats - perhaps Melbourne or Essendon, I saw him jag a set shot from a tight angle out in the far pocket. The look on his face after steering it through told a story. The look of stress as the hushed applause told the rest. Had a very good game for Sandy.

So what's with him?

Is he that bad?

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!
