Richo had him pegged as a lockdown defender. Kudos to Ratts for sensing other possibilities

Re: Dmac - Mark 2
He did. Was that when Cameron got hold of him?
Anyway, it doesn’t mean he can never be used in that type of role again, but not sure about putting him up against the competition’s best player tomorrow night.

Re: Dmac - Mark 2
I think he’ll play as a defensive winger tomorrow
Or even a defensive HF on Houli
Cameron got hold of DMac in 2019 but he is not the first defender to get a lesson from Cameron - and he did kick two while DMac was on the bench getting patched up.
I think Ross will run with Dusty, and handover to Wilkie when Martin cheats

Re: Dmac - Mark 2
Drafted as a winger / mid - we tried to turn him into a defender. Looks at home as a winger where he can use his pace and endurance- and generally has a bit more time to dispose the ball properly rather than rushed kicks under pressure

Re: Dmac - Mark 2
He can’t play in defence he doesn’t have the 1v1 ability or the skills and I did say last year his only hope is as a midfielder to use his gut running and aggressiveness but the skills have been a huge problem. He lowered his eyes last week went short and hit targets well done to him we great to see. I have not been a fan and if he plays more regularly like last week and not like so many of his poor games then he would have proved his doubters wrong. Let’s see it’s not just being ok yourself it’s being better than your other squad members to make the 22. When Paton comes back and Long responds will he be ahead of them and other challenges? That’s the question but for now if he can give us value that is all you can ask.skeptic wrote: ↑Sun 11 Apr 2021 12:11pm I always thought that his disposal was the thing that made him unplayable
McKenzie in term of endeavour, fitness and work rate has been close to elite from the start. He had his pants pulled down a few times by faster opponents but for developing players that happens and they learn from it
He was an absolute liability for a time turning the ball over +++ and costing goals
Modern footy is all about keeping and controlling possession and capitalising on opportunities
It’s a very noticeable improvement so far this year and really highlight his strengths

Re: Dmac - Mark 2
Looks like he was told to work on his composure with the ball in hand and of course his kicking. Looks like he has, hope it stays consistent. A noted big game player as a junior he certainly produced that last week.

Played well on Saturday, I gave him a vote. But it's a bit early to be making declarations. Let's see how he goes in the next few weeks. He hasn't got any taller or any faster but his skills may have improved. These were the three areas that denied him a game in the past.

Re: Dmac - Mark 2
Yeah massive game for DMac, how will he go against the reigning premiers who have their backs against the wall, if I may sneak a cliche in. Many, many incredibly talented and experienced warriors in the Tiges side not to mention that bloke that possibly will be discussed in the same way we talk about Leigh Mathews by the time his career comes to an end, namely one D. Martin, a once in a generation type and then some.
The ground has never been more fertile for DMac to announce himself as being a player that belongs at the elite level and his timing will be more than perfect if he can in fact deliver something to remember tonight.
Nothing to lose.

It will be a good test tonight because unlike West Coke, the Tigers will bring it. We’ll get to see if his disposal holds up.

Gave up 3 shots at goal in just the first quarter...

Re: Dmac - Mark 2
One was a free kick, he was too close to that Tiger Fwd
2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

DMac looked out of his depth and by a long stretch, but then again so did 21 other players.
