Saints vs Tigers
We only have a 5 day turn around, Tigers the 6. Hopefully we can bring the same pressure as we did in the second half last night.
The only change I would make is to drop Coffield, he is terribly out of form and running up and down on the spot. Replace him with Long as he has the speed to match Richmonds small forwards.
Give Ryder a light run for Sandringham and bring him back to play against Port.

I would be giving Lonie the flick for Dunstan.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sun 11 Apr 2021 5:22pm We only have a 5 day turn around, Tigers the 6. Hopefully we can bring the same pressure as we did in the second half last night.

Re: Saints vs Tigers
Dunstan can provide more than Lonie- and we've possibly found a Dunstan replacement who can get in n under and actually has a bit of speed and awareness.
Had 23 Pressure Acts vs Bombers, highest Saint.
Yesterday he'll be in coaches' votes, I reckon.
Crouch. Early days, but he's a keeper

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: Saints vs Tigers
I think one of Lonie or Higgins has to go.
Bring Long in for one of them.
But most importantly, bring the same intensity from the second half and we’re in with a big shot.

Higgins is kicking goals and looks to have the bigger scope for improvement IMO

Re: Saints vs Tigers
Agree with the call on Lonie, but I doubt they will replace him with Dunstan. More likely Kent gets a run depending on his Sandringham form.

I suspect you’re right.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sun 11 Apr 2021 6:45pm Agree with the call on Lonie, but I doubt they will replace him with Dunstan. More likely Kent gets a run depending on his Sandringham form.
I just think that if you can’t win footy, which neither Lonie or Kent can, then you’re either relying on sublime speed and disposal to kick good goals from limited opportunities... or you need to be freakishly great at getting in the right spots like Stephen Milne
Again, both qualities neither possess
Give me Dunstan over both

Re: Saints vs Tigers
Dunstan as a forward?
Lonie is twice the forward he could ever be!!!
Dunstan is a better mid than Lonie, but Lonie doesn’t play there.

Re: Saints vs Tigers
Just because someone suggests that Lonie should be dropped and Dunstan added to the team does not mean like for like ffs.
Plenty of other options for example Dunstan could start on the bench, most likely, or in the centre.
Lonie is dead meat so far this year and not deserving of a place in the 22.

Re: Saints vs Tigers
Not sure we need 3 small forwards but Lonie is probably due his 3 or 4 goal game - though if we were to drop one of them it would be him
That said I don't think we will make any changes
Paddy to come in next week v Port
Edit ....... just seen the Marshall injury thread - Dunstan to ruck

Re: Saints vs Tigers
I just hope Richmond don’t drink any of our juice last week. They’ve lost two in a row.
Will they come out punch drunk and shoot their load? Or will it be a controlled thing?
Of course they know better than to do the former, but they are human.
If Long comes in, expect aggression, but expect free kicks going to Cochin and Martin.

Re: Saints vs Tigers
Lonie, unfortunately for him, is too small and not strong enough for AFL football. How many times does he snap the ball around the corner, past the goals, for a point? It seems like every time to me. I don't know who you bring in for him but he is a liability.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Saints vs Tigers
Lonie is a good small forward who has already had a solid career
He’s not in the side to take contested marks, win clearances or get 20+ possessions
He’s there to crumb, to pressure and to have score involvements

Re: Saints vs Tigers
I always like Lonie's efforts at the contest, but I've seen him get out-muscled in the forward half a lot this season, and not being able to get hands on ball as a result. Kent would be pressuring him for a spot.

Re: Saints vs Tigers
He seems to be improving under Ratts. Very often at the contest and generally keeping the defence nervous/honest with his positioning. Has improved markedly from his first couple of seasons, looks stronger and more confident, certainly vocal, works up/down the ground hard. That doesn't mean he can kick very far or take a specky but until something better comes along - and as much as I admire Luke Dunstan I don't think its him for the fwd pocket. Perhaps Long could come in to do a job on Grimes?

Re: Saints vs Tigers
I'm not part of the anti Lonie crowd but I haven't noticed him much this year. He’s also failed to nail his chances a few times. It looks like he's stagnating a bit.

Re: Saints vs Tigers
Luke definitely doesn't have the tank for that. I see Luke as a 1-dimensional inside mid ... and Jack Bytel is already better and more dynamic at that role than Luke ever was.desertsaint wrote: ↑Sun 11 Apr 2021 11:06pm could be they're testing dunstan as a lock in forward to replace the role geary played at times last year?

Maybe, love Bytel but he has yet to win a brownlow vote, unlike Luke.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Tue 13 Apr 2021 11:16amLuke definitely doesn't have the tank for that.
