Jack Bytel
10 tackles and 13 disposals in rd1
Was the sub in rd 2, barely got a look in and was dropped for the Essendon game
19 touches and 7 more tackles again today.
Simply put... the kid needs to play a hell of a lot more. Don’t want to see him dropped again while we have 3 forward pockets in the team... send Steele or Billings to rest down there for a bit if we need midfield space. They can kick goals.
Kid will be a tank
Love him

Re: Jack Bytel
Bytel worked well with Crouch and Steele ... I thought it would make our midfield too "inside."
But we got plenty of outside run from Jones and Hill - also from McKenzie, Billings and Sinclair.
So, we had good balance (of inside and outside).

He didn’t go off immediately and he was on at the final siren. If he went off, he certainly didn’t go through a 20 minute protocol.

Re: Jack Bytel
At the start of the season I thought he'd probably get a game in the first two rounds while waiting for Crouch to come in and then I just thought there were too many proven peformers in front of him. I thought if he is getting selected we are either in serious trouble or he is delivering on the hype. Gresh and Hanners being out helps but the opportunity is now there for the taking as it turns out.skeptic wrote: ↑Sat 10 Apr 2021 9:09pm 10 tackles and 13 disposals in rd1

Oh great news, thanks Kosi. I saw him on the bench talking to a trainer/medic. Just before the end. There is no doubt he went out, is there?kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 11 Apr 2021 8:57amHe didn’t go off immediately and he was on at the final siren. Re: Jack Bytel
For a bloke who has only played 6 games so far I have been really impressed with Jack Bytel's performance this year, improving every game and on that basis should remain in "best 22".
Really like his intensity, never takes a backward step, makes good decisions and uses the ball well. At 189 cm he is a big bodied midfielder and at age 21 (last month) he has the maturity to mix it with the best. Destined to eventually succeed Seb Ross, though the latter has well and truly delivered this year.

Re: Jack Bytel
In our best 22 - not about 'getting the games into the kids' - he is best 22 and we are all the worse as a team when he doesn't play.
Same with Paton in the back line when he comes back next year.

My personal preference... and it’s only my opinion/philosophy which I accept may be different to your own, is that a top 22 needs at least one, maybe two spots to go to players developing into your first tier team.
At the moment, the three that I have earmarked for great things are Bytel, Highmore and Byrnes (though he’s injured at the moment I think)
IMO it’s in our best interest to get at least 10-12 games into them a year and get them to 30-40 games after 3 years on the list.
So whilst I take your point with Bytel and having ready made players in front on him... it’s why I don’t mind the idea of a guy like Steele or Billings resting in a FP for 10min a quarter and giving Bytel time in the middle.

Re: Jack Bytel
He's pretty much demanded a spot now.
As mentioned above, one of the small forwards has to go out before he does.
His hands are so sharp. He is a rare talent. This is exactly what he did as a junior, instantly translated to AFL level.

That's assuming he was concussed

Re: Jack Bytel
Might be a ‘test case’ unfortunately. Might be forced to miss a week, next week, just when we need him, and he needs to keep going.
FOX reply shows the skulls knocking, his head knocked backwards and the crash and slam into the ground. He also looked kinda messed up as he dealt with trainer and although he was immediately involved his disposal didn’t look clean .Not sure if that was implicated but on the bench pretty soon.
I hope he can go again of course. Hanners would still be a ways off I would think.

He finished the game on the ground, so unless the medical staff are incompetent, he was showing no signs of concussion and won’t be forced to miss a week.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sun 11 Apr 2021 3:03pm Might be a ‘test case’ unfortunately.
