In addition to the unbalanced and unfair free kick count, Eleni paid 3 very doubtful marks to GWS which were never held for sufficient time.
My absolute nightmare game would be one in which Eleni and Nick Foot are umpiring together against us.
Plus that "mark"of the round given to that little s*** Green was clearly touched by Hunter. No mark, play on. f*** me.
Fair call, and I agree Hunter probably as many fingers on it as uncle creepy with the wandering hands on the dance floor, but I don't have an issue with that decision. If they didn't pay that they'd never pay a pack mark.
If the ball was touched off the boot it's play on but whoever comes down with a pack mark usually gets it regardless of how many touch it first.
I thought Elani was pathetic across the board and without doubt her decisions significantly favored the Giants across the course of the game, however she was also very poor in our favor. The Membrey hold was clearly there but it was soft as he was out of the contest regardless of being held or not, and IMO the Butler call was wrong as he was not tackled or retarded in a tackle.
To me if you don't notice an umpire they have done a good job, Elani absolutely over officiated and imposes herself on the game as opposed to paying the absolutely obvious frees and letting the game flow.
The new rule is surprisingly improving the spectical and scoring, now I'd like to see the AFL reel the umpires in and have them focus on the absolute frees not the soft ones.

They’ve only paid that exact same mark 100% of the time over the 100+ years football has been around... but Saynta doesn’t like the bloke, so play on!
All posters are equal, but some posters are more equal than others.

I was at the game and agree with nearly everything you say Joffa - and can say the Saints crowd ( admittedly biased towards the Saints) were absolutely appalled by some of the umpiring
What I don’t agree with is re the Butler tackle - the context of the tackling was that the umps had been hot on dropping the ball/ incorrect disposal all day - although seemed to miss a few for us
But with the tackle itself Ward was running with ball in hand - Butler hit him - front on - with his arms going around ward who dropped the ball
Some are saying it was a bump - only guys who like hospital food bump front on - you bump with your hip and shoulder.
There is no doubt it was the force of the impact that caused the ball to be dropped rather than any type of rag dolling by the hands/arms - but I don’t think the rule asks for a shake from side to side for a tackle to be recognized
But the way I see it is - Ward (player 1 )has the ball and is running and is impacted by an opposition player who hits him (player 1)front on with force and simultaneously has his arms go around him (player -1) and it’s at this point that he drops the ball - simple decision - free Butler

100% of the time they pay marks when the ball is clearly touched before hand is it. Your taking the piss.

I want to go to the footy and see marks like that paid - maybe Hunter touched it if you slow the vision and check snicko - but that was a big pack mark that I want to see get paid

May as well pay touched goals if it’s a exciting bit of play.

Yep, put the super slow-mo camera on and it brushes the blokes fingers a millisecond before Greene takes an absolute hanger. If Curley and Saynta had their way then half the pack marks / speccies taken over footy history would be erased (depending on what colour shirt they’re wearing of course!).
Some people just don’t have a feel for the game!

Never have you spoken a truer word. You certainly don't have a feel for the game. That's tucking obvious.
For ump to see the Greene mark was touched he had to have superhero vision
From where Eleni was standing (other side of Ward) she would have seen both of Butler's arms go around Ward which compromises a tackle even as a split second event
We got some horrible ones paid against us - it happens
But it was the ones we didnt get - the blatant in the backs, dropping the balls and holds that are the issue
30-14 free kick count against is ridiculous in a game we won and that was tight all day
That said we have work to do ...... as do the umpiring fraternity

Not sure if anyone else has bothered but from a brief look at all the results and stats only one side who won on the weekend was on the positive end of free kicks
Professional players suck it up and move on
Chew on that how you will

Very interesting and I agree good sides just get on with it (can we take off the lid yet????) .... but it is near on impossible to turn a blind cheek to a 30-14 lopsided free kick count where many were missed our way and quite a few were wrongly adjudicated

Eleni is an example of how tokenism doesn't work. She is not up to AFL standard and makes a mockery of umpires in general. To rub salt into the wounds, she received an Australia Day honour. An Order of Australia for her services to umpiring. What services is the first question that comes to mind. The mediocrity of activism at its worst.
It's the Taylor Harris syndrome.
Put up a statue to a female footballer in a sub-standard (though rapidly improving) competition who is seldom listed in her teams best players much less the best in the competition.
I dont have an issue in honouring great female champions like Betty Cuthbert, Cathy Freeman, Margaret Court, Shane Gould etc.
But Eleni and Taylor's recognition is purely box ticking.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!
Is there a breakdown of the 30-14 between the three officiating umpires?
That could provide great insight!

A bank paid an artist to make a statue.
Maybe if you and your like didn't troll her so hard in the first place they wouldn't have felt the need to?
