Why is he described as Indigenous player Paddy Ryder?
I don't recall reading "Anglo Saxon" key forward Max King injured by golf ball
Well said. The education process has arguably only begun.SAINT-LEE wrote: ↑Tue 16 Mar 2021 9:01amJoffa Burns wrote: ↑Mon 15 Mar 2021 3:12pm https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/saints-r ... -c-2323851

I dont know why you have stated this, I dont know your motives.
But, you are absolutely correct.
As an Australian with Aboriginal heritage I can state that the Federal government, the National Aboriginal Council, Australian Social Workers Association, PACFA, UAW, all universities and on and on agree and recommend ceasing LABELLING.
Who are you referring to? The fat guy, the short chinese girl, the Aboriginal woman, the gay guy, the old man, etc etc.
It's actually considered racist to label people based on race.
We are sick of it. His name is Paddy. Not black Paddy.
No motive, it just struck me as odd that he would be referred as such.SAINT-LEE wrote: ↑Tue 16 Mar 2021 9:01amJoffa Burns wrote: ↑Mon 15 Mar 2021 3:12pm https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/saints-r ... -c-2323851

Story in Herald Sun this week. (This is 100% legit)SAINT-LEE wrote: ↑Tue 16 Mar 2021 9:01amJoffa Burns wrote: ↑Mon 15 Mar 2021 3:12pm https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/saints-r ... -c-2323851

To me that could have been terminology that Indigenous Australians were proud to be referred as or quite the opposite, hence the question - Why is he described as Indigenous player Paddy Ryder?
I would actually like to know the answer.
Not for a guy recovering from injury and serious about that recovery and his preseason fitness.
Simplistically for me the choice is a player missing family and feeling low playing the first three games or having him come back say round 4 mentally alert, feeling cared for and supported by the club and ready to give his all.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Tue 16 Mar 2021 1:25pmNot for a guy recovering from injury and serious about that recovery and his preseason fitness.
He'd have missed a massive chunk of his preparation, sitting in quarantine, with little control over his diet, training and wellbeing. Not to mention the heightened risk of COVID infection.
The inconvenience of the timing to leave now, is the lesser of two evils.
No, that would be ageism.
That makes sense Joffa, however, his brother Bradden commented on FacebookJoffa Burns wrote: ↑Tue 16 Mar 2021 4:56pmSimplistically for me the choice is a player missing family and feeling low playing the first three games or having him come back say round 4 mentally alert, feeling cared for and supported by the club and ready to give his all.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Tue 16 Mar 2021 1:25pmNot for a guy recovering from injury and serious about that recovery and his preseason fitness.

No brainer.
I remember a parents talk I attended from an Australian Olympic sports psychologist and she discussed they had conducted a survey around Olympic athletes and what they craved most from their coaches and the response was "CARE".

'There’s a lot of comments already about paddy missing the first few games saying why wait until the season is about to start, the reason behind that is because ratts wanted him to be as fit as he could for the season. Paddy’s had a hard and difficult past year and seeing his family will be the best thing for him, we haven’t seen him in almost 2 years. This will be refreshing for him and he’ll be back hungrier and ready to go.'
When someone commented that there may be more to it Bradden replied
'being my brother I think I’d know if he wasn’t planning on returning mate.'
And later,
'Port Adelaide didn’t give him this kind of support when he needed time away, he’ll repay the club and supporters on the field. Cheers guys'
As for whether Bradden is his brother, there is certainly a good resemblance if you look at his profile pictures.
I hope the club doesn't offer him a new contract at years end, I think he's done.perfectionist wrote: ↑Sat 03 Apr 2021 6:49pm If he's suffering from depression he should quit. If he's homesick, he should grow up - he's 33, not 3.
Sad, but true.
