Bruce McAvaney was a great caller of the game, his enthusiasm for the "greatest game of all" was infectious and added to the atmosphere, especially in the marquee matches.

He was on a par with another veteran caller in Tim Lane (ABC), they both made you feel you were at the ground...when I lived overseas listening to their commentary was always full of nostalgia!

Grand Finals will not be the same without them.
Yep, Eddie everywhere, f****** Dwayne Shithead and that f*** wit BT were/are all worse than Bruce,FFS.

Interesting that you mention Eddie. I started having a dislike for Brucey after the ‘97 Grand Final.

I didn’t mind McAvaney in his early years of AFL (before he started ‘inserting’ his personality into the commentary)

He is definitely one of the best and most versatile sports commentators
BUMP

Bruce McAvaney inducted into the Hall of Fame for introducing phrases like ‘he squeezes one out’ and ‘he squirted’ into football commentary.

And who could ever forget when Brucey described Cyril as ‘delicious’

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-ha ... 8d4d2b0dde

He will become the 11th member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame’s media category

In my opinion Bruce was an excellent commentator of footy ( and a number of other sports ) , and the accolade is well- deserved.

easily the best in the business by far
His recall of stats and history was excellent across many sports
WHen he and D Cametti teamed together it was excellent

compare those two with B Taylor & M Richardson ???

Bruce is one of the best, if not THE best.

I wish he and Dennis still at it.

Never liked Bruce
Overrated gushing …embarrassing at times was my take but I guess others loved his constant stats spew off a tablet
Dennis C was a good listen ..balanced
This current lot??? Pathetic
James Brayshaw constantly fake laughs
Taylor thinks he’s actually funny …
Daisy - captain obvious
Luke “say that again” Darcy
I don’t mind Richo - think he puts on lesser of a front
Hodge ok

“Yeah….nah””

Iconoclast
Shameless Crows supporter
Mad punter, but good judge
Infectious enthusiasm
Loved playing footy when a young man. Played hard, to win.
Fitness guy
Consummate professional
Good analyst, the other end of the scale from the likes of D.King
Pleasant speaking/shrieking voice (a rarity at the moment)
So much complexity and talent compared to the current crop.
I'd like to see those young chaps on Saints TV become live action callers, they are good.
In the future broadcasters will realise they can monetise viewer caller preferences.
You can get rabid bias for say Collingwood/Carlton/Richmond fans
Calm analysis for Hawks fans
Gentle psychological support and encouragement for Saints fans. Mansplaining of how umpiring works.
Comedy/over the top slap stick stuff for Suns/GWS supporters
Dour factual monotone for Swans fans.
Mute for Eagles
etc....
AI probably the future.
(Its certainly not Brayshaw, vomitous cliches, saccharine "style" and inaccuracies. Must be related to the producers.)
