Re: Another Serious Injury
FFS thats all we need, Roughy would be feeling ordinary. Thats 5 first 22 out injured things arent looking good for the start of the season.

That's the season done for him
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

I hope Sandringham have plenty of reserves as they may struggle to field a side with the Saints list dropping like flies.

Yes Webster closer fit. Plus in terms of starting back 6 there is Long.
Highmore may be a bit big to cover the opposition smalls.

Re: Another Serious Injury
Boy that really hurts us...
Not only in the short to medium term but a broken leg IMO seems to be one of the more difficult injuries to come back from... the power in the leg is usually markedly reduced for a long time even after they start re-training
As said above... WTF is going on down there
Feels like they’re all being pushed too hard

Rotten luck for the young man & I'm no doctor but you would think season over if it's as bad as its as bad as it sounds. Our depth is going to be well & truly tested if this rate of carnage continues.

Bummer, but crisis creates opportunity for Jimmy Webster. More than handy player and I’d like to see how he goes in a good St Kilda side ... something we never saw under Richo.

As suggested by others it now probably opens the door for Jimmy. And wouldn't he be like, phew!, Jim had a fight on his hand to get back into the side.

Re: Another Serious Injury
I really feel for young Ben. I still believe he can become a AA defender, very much in the mould of Nick Smith from Sydney. Certainly no need to rush him, he's a long career with the Saints.
At this stage we have relative cover for everyone except RoMa. Replacing him will take some imagination & a supreme effort from Ryder.

Re: Another Serious Injury
Happened right in front of me. In back pocket near point post. Paton, as he often does, was receiving a handball and was going to run away. Missed the actual colliision but heard the crack and then the scream. Attended to very quickly as it was near the trainers and docs. Roughy was looking very concerned.

Re: Another Serious Injury
Some of these injuries are very concerning
Foot injuries for a big heavy man are worrisome (maybe hitting too many balls at MGA - jokes, but he’s there a lot!)
Sandilands had a lot of foot issues and missed many games
Hamstring Tendon can be debilitating for an explosive player
Hamstring reoccurrence is Cleary an issue
Broken leg can be really problematic eg/Matt Maguire was never the same again
I know I’m being glass half empty here but I’ve seen injury end so many StK careers prematurely or hinder careers and players never reach full potential
For eg/ X.Clarke, B.Brookes, F.Watts, J.Allen, L.Penny, L.Ball, A.Hamill, J.Koschitzke and many more
It’s a bloody curse!!!

Re: Another Serious Injury
All I can think about in regard to this is the reported scream when it happened and the pain and shock the young man is in. So glad the Club will do everything to help and that he will get best of care and not have to worry about the cost. Feel for his parents and team mates, esp. those in the vicinity. Will put a pall over the preseason to say the least. All the very best Ben and all power to the surgeon.

Clean snapped a tib & fib playing football, the sound is like a tree branch snapping and quite scary.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Thu 18 Feb 2021 3:01pm All I can think about in regard to this is the reported scream when it happened and the pain and shock the young man is in. The good part is you do go into shock pretty quickly with the break of a large bone and the pain becomes manageable after a few minutes or so.
Really bad news for the young fella, I hope it is an uncomplicated break and a straight forward surgery.
Most broken legs are relatively easy fix from what I am told by medical professionals.
From memory Maguire had compartment syndrome and had to have the leg opened up. Former Saint Dean Greig lost a leg in this fashion.

Re: Another Serious Injury
Bad luck for Ben and the club.
Not a position that is easy for us to cover with Geary already injured. There are many dangerous, quick smalls in the opposition forward lines that we will have to cover and other than Long or McKenzie I am struggling. It has to be Long and he needs to knuckle down and do the job.

Re: Another Serious Injury
ST KILDA has been dealt another pre-season injury blow, with defender Ben Paton understood to have broken his tibia and fibula in a freak incident at training on Thursday.
Foxfooty.com.au understands Paton will undergo surgery at The Avenue as early as Friday morning and miss the entire 2020 season.
