Tassie's Ultimation to AFL:

Post: # 1888235Post shanegrambeau »

Tassie are saying they will kick out North and Hawthorn unless they have a team.

Bravo...and fair enough.

They need a team.

We need them to have one.

Assuming we can't pack Collingwood off I hope they make a damn team.

And then we have 19 and a bye.

I much prefer rotating bye to the 'dead spots' mid-season anyway.

I hope North stay in melbourne and Arden street.

Hawthorn..I don't care.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Could there be eyes at AFL headquarters looking in our direction for the move though?

Or a brand new franchise?

Nah its the Tasmaroos for me.

Hawthorn..I don't care.

I care.
Send Hawthorn to Tasmania permanently.
That will stop them developing a training facility in our backyard and stealing our constituency of supporters.

Bravo Tassie!!!

Tassie have been treated like s***, and even so there devotion to the sport remains - it’s never been rewarded

And if they relocate a rubbish club like North there, it won’t work either!!!

Tasmanians don’t want to watch other clubs play in Tas
They want the map on the jumper!!!

How many Tasmanians already support a club, and would be happy to ditch them to follow a brand new startup, that will inevitably struggle for a good while?

Just like the people in the ACT. Most will never support GWS.

Also, a team in Tassie will never work. The goodly people of the North, Lonnie, Devonport, Burnie etc...hate the South with a passion while the arsewipes in Hobart just pretend that they are all that's important in the Apple Isle and just ignore the rest. A Tassie team is doomed to fail. Sorry, but that's the god's honour truth.

Not necessarily true Saynta,

Northerners don’t like southerner clubs, that’s a fact!

But will support a Tas team based out of the South if it represents the state. For eg, all Taswegians support the Hobart Hurricanes even though Hobart is in the name!
I am certainly on the Cane Train!

Also, I can say without hesitation I like many others will support a Tassie team if they come in, I am clearly a parochial StK supporter but if my home team enters the comp, they will definitely be my club. Like 90% of Adelaide people support the Crows and Power and most West Aussies support WC and Freo.

However if it’s the Tassie Kangaroos
I will not support the history of the NMFC as I cannot stand them or their jumper!!! Most Tassies would feel the same

Tasmanians are passionate, parochial football people who would be United by their OWN team!!!!

I am interested if anyone cares whether Norf or the Squawks play out of Tassie. Its like threatening to close a pinball arcade because they can't get a major theme park. Isn't it? If they could support a team they'd have one already, wouldn't they?
North Tasmania Football Club. Do they have Kangaroos in Tasmania?

Tasmania has five species of macropods, the commonly-known wallabies and kangaroos, and the lesser known bettongs and potoroos.

i do like to be helpful :P

Forester kangaroo - Macropus giganteus
Bennett's (red-necked) wallaby - Notamacropus rufogriseus
Pademelon (rufous-bellied) - Thylogale billardierii
Eastern bettong - Bettongia gaimardi
Long-nosed potoroo - Potorous tridactylus

Send Hawks to the south and Roos to the north.

Let them both play 2 home games at the MCG for the first decade.

Problem solved.

With only one species of Kangaroo they can afford another. The Macropussies.

You have a point.

They say they won’t get sponsors down there....afl rationalists say it...but they prop up Gold Coast in that way https://www.afr.com/companies/sport/the ... 201-h0s15t

A Tassie derby would be great. Small crowds dont matter. More TV games. 20 teams...and for once, it will be based on cultural organic (North-South passion and Tasmanians play footy more than even we do...despite appalling neglect from AFL) instead of Gold Coast economic rationalism

But I want North to stay...it’s robbing Peter to pay Paul.

While it would make some sense to send a team to Tassie from a purely emotional perspective it doesn't from a financial one.

Greater Western Sydney and Gold Coast were all about expanding the game into Rugby league strongholds thus pulling supporters from those markets.
Tassie is already a committed audience for the AFL.
Putting a team in Tassie does not get the AFL one extra follower which is what the AFL wants to expand the game.
The only thing putting a team in Tassie does is cannibalise the support of the existing clubs.
Tasmania has a population of 515,000 and Hobart has a population slightly less than that of Geelong.
So maybe a club would be able to secure enough members but it will not add a single dollar to the television revenue as the Taswegians are already watching AFL.

It is a romantic notion but I can't see it ever happening.

No. No kangaroos ,only wallabies.
