That's actually true. And even moreso in the US states where helmet wearing is non-compulsory. I know a chap in the States who needed a kidney transplant who was told to re-locate to Illinois or Iowa during the US winter. Motorcycles + No helmet laws + wet roads = eventual abundance of organs for transplant.
Geeeez that’s dark

Great to see the half braincell that is Lyon & Watson wanting Melbourne to call up Paddy to play

The fact he is training with the Swans and even they haven't moved to pick him up let alone taking into account his history of head trauma.

They may as well sign his death warrant

I sense a moral duplicity here..(is that a word? ....please understand, ex electrician does arts degree tends to speak out of safe range)

Anyway, St Kilda would be judged mercilessly by the media if we played Paddy onwards and he copped another hit. On the other hand, Melbourne, Sydney etc., they are like St Johns Ambulance, The Salvation Army and Mother Theresa rolled into one, for ‘giving the lad a go’.

Oh well, I am also infected by the duplicity. I am like, ‘Good o ya lad, good luck...cause it’s Sydney’. That’s messed up, is it not?

Didn’t they pick him up with their VFL team?

I have always said that Paddy would end up on a list somewhere.

Good luck to him.

Maybe his wag didn't want to move to Sydney. Maybe she couldn't support the decision for him to play and wanted to move on from the stress.
If indeed things have turned around for him health wise and he can reclaim his career, she can't be blamed for leaving him when he was at his lowest, but no one could blame her for not watching on while he dives head first, pun intended, back into the problem which flattened him in the first place.

Without any knowledge whatsoever, just from a laymen’s perspective, it would seem to me that someone like him and Kosi perhaps too, will be just a fraction more cognisant of their surroundings on the field, and this may result in a fraction of a second of hesitation which in turn results in more collisions. Catch 22, he just says ‘damn it’ and runs right across the highway blindfold or is stuck looking left and right. I can’t see how any amount of physiological healing can stop it, because it is now wired into his cognition.

Anyway ,girlfriend has left - and let’s face it, he isn’t gonna be a star and status will trump love, just as looks so, as does money , and it must have been grim for both of them holding on to their dreams.

So of course we wish him luck, but I swear we wouldn’t be so happy if he stayed in our list, so we are being sneaky in that old fashioned way.

Good luck to Paddy. He'll need buckets of it. Diabetes and concussion are not comfortable bedfellows for a start.

I just hope those advising him have been conservative in their assessments of his chances. Of course, there's one thing they can't predict. Paddy getting a heavy knock to the head in a pack or marking contest.

If I know my specialists well enough, they have the instant excuse. As the lawyer might say, "On the one hand, Paddy, the chances of you getting a severe head injury are slim. On the other hand.......

Good luck Paddy.

But who will be held responsible if he ends up with long term damage?

Will it be St Kilda, Sydney or the AFL?

It won't be St.Kilda, so who cares? Paddy clearly doesn't.

I think we are immune.

By saying 'Good luck Paddy' we also get to feel better about ourselves.

We wouldn't feel too happy about him staying on our list of course, so it's a bit dark.

But who are you gonna trust? A litigation lawyer? The media? AFL house and their marketing team? Sponsors in the VIP rooms?

If Paddy gets hurt it will be bad for footy altogether...but dangerous for the clubs that played him.

I wouldnt discount the club at this point
The players' contract is with the club
The club is the one that employs doctors to clear players to be fit & ready and that is now after the now mandatory AFL concussion lay off and that was initiated because clubs were bringing back concussed players straight away
The AFL will always be inn the firing line because of the monetary value.
Yeah I get that the club carried him over his long recovery and erred on the side of heavy precaution - but that only indicates to me, standing on the outside, how serious a case he was

What is far more interesting now is if his current employer now wrote in a special Paddy clause indemnifying them of any future lawsuits - hard to believe any players manager/solicitor would sign that, but everything just smacks of how desperate Paddy is to get back playing at any level

Interesting idea. I'm a recent ex-circus high-wire trapeze artist, but Covid shut down the shows. I have had to join a construction company to feed my family. My reflexes and balance are exceptional. So no need for a harness when I'm working high-rise. Never had a fall. Reckon my boss would write me a special clause so I can avoid the hassle of wearing it?

He'd be just as stupid as Sydney would if they did this. I reckon WorkSafe/Cover would come down like a ton of bricks even if there was a clause.

However, given the reluctance of Victoria WorkSafe to prosecute its government for that Covid debacle leading to 800+ deaths, they just might turn a blind eye to this scenario as well.

So.............

WorkSafe Victoria have jurisdiction over footy players playing in New South Wales do they?

Can you explain to us plebs how the regulations were breached in Aged Care and how WorkSafe "turned a blind eye"

Here's the link in regard to the legislation, just so that you can refer us to the exact clauses
