Re: Goodes riddance, Eddie gone!
Maher's attempts to remind people Eddie is not the victim is chilling - not because its fair either. McGuire, was politically speared ...whether we like him or not.
It is like Nixon, (The US one) He may not be a dove, but he tried to scale down the war in Vietnam right off the bat. A war he did not start. But he will be identified as the villian - the war monger.
I am not sad Eddie is gone. BUt he definitely died on a political sword - not an ideological one.

In my humble opinion he (Maguire) should have resigned when he made the Goodes - King Kong - gaff.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Tue 09 Feb 2021 6:27pm Maher's attempts to remind people Eddie is not the victim is chilling - not because its fair either. It was unforgivable for a seasoned media man and a person in his position as a club president.
However, I think Maguire has been under scrutiny this past month that has been a massive witch hunt and I do feel some sympathy for him and the massively tarnished reputation that now follows him.

King Kong gaff was him being a dick..trying to be cute...ironic...he was being way too clever for the audience. Should have known...a disaster, and yes, that is the price.. He would not be forgiven, other than by insiders.Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Tue 09 Feb 2021 6:40pmIn my humble opinion he (Maguire) should have resigned when he made the Goodes - King Kong - gaff.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Tue 09 Feb 2021 6:27pm Maher's attempts to remind people Eddie is not the victim is chilling - not because its fair either. Cancel culture is just another cute term, no doubt used by horrible types sometimes, but it is also a dark fact of life now.
Even saying this much, you can hear the stormtrrops coming over the hill, "You kidding me!...you defending McGuire for that...you dead now"

What a great day!
I wonder if Eddie realises how much incredible pleasure his tears have given so many.
If only Plugger had smashed his head in with that crutch all those years ago.
A proud day indeed.

I haven't seen much at all in any of the Eddie so called controversies. Shame he couldn't see out his presidency until the end of this year as planned. Been a great president for Collingwood.
But I guess we are living in the eggshell generation.

Time for a big clear out off the field as well?

Eddie is just speeding away
Thought he was James Dean for a day
Then I guess he had to crash
sponsors would have helped that bash,
hey Eddie, take a walk on the humble side
And the colored girls say
"Doo do doo do doo do do doo..."
hey honey, take a walk.......

Poor Eddie, misunderstood, taken out of context, only his friends would know, blah, blah blah. Don't trip over your tongue on the way out the door Eddie.

That's it for president McGuire.

How long will Buckley last now his chief advocate and protector is gone? Maximum turmoil for the pies is a good thing. Pass the popcorn.

I also heard that McGuire had resigned too.

An excellent President who should have upped stumps after his Goodes gaffe. A dignified exit by falling on his sword 7 years ago would have meant so much more in terms of what should never be tolerated and his legacy.
Agree with B.M., the pleasure now is to watch Collingwood continue to implode. This is their Carlton Brown Baggers & Essendope cliff.

Who is Lumumba.
A guy from the slums of Rio de Janeiro.
Who got a lucky break.
Was taken by Collingwood at 21 in the rookie draft.
Got to be someone because he won a nobel prize for medicine or was it he kicked a football for Collingwood.
Set him up for life.
Now he has crapped all over everyone who made that possible for him.
Didn't say thank you on the way out.
A chump.

Re: Goodes riddance, Eddie gone!
Chump wasn't always an insult. It originally referred—and still does, in some quarters—to “a short, thick lump of wood chopped or sawn off from timber.” It first appeared in print in 1680, and seems to have arisen in parallel with chunk, possibly influenced by lump, stump, or clump.

No way he could/should continue after that last press conference, the game has passed him by, he’s becoming an embarrassment to himself and everything he’s associated with.

Typical racist crap from you...He should have just been happy that he was given a job and paid good money.
Do you think it’s an accident that Lumumba has made a stand and relentlessly pursued this issue all these years?
He’s driven by a passionate desire to call out racist attitudes and racist behaviour and he’s a man of integrity

Lumumba refused to be appeased and look what has happened, some genuine change rather than window dressing and spin.Scollop wrote: ↑Tue 09 Feb 2021 10:35pmYou like to paint a stereotypical picture of the guy...and a false picture I might add,ace wrote: ↑Tue 09 Feb 2021 9:39pm Who is Lumumba.

He won't be well liked, but someone had to unreasonable enough to withstand all the carrots and sticks sent his way.
It is a great credit to him that he held his ground.
Eddie could have apologized but chose to spin the narrative each time....the "proud day for Collingwood " finally broke through the threshold of tolerance for enough people that he has to go.
It will take him another 5 years before he realizes he is actually in the wrong and needs to say sorry.
He is like the Fonz trying to apologize.
