Re: Shocking Records against Opponents
I reckon we draw a line in the sand at end of 2019.
That's when the place took a quantum leap into a new era.
The winds of change swept thru the place.
Last year showcased that the squad was able to overcome obstacles that have no precedent.
It shows that they could play anywhere.
They are writing their own history.
It's like the Berlin Wall being torn down- no more East Germany/West Germany.
A united nation of singular purpose.
RSEA is now a united entity with great leadership.
Recognises the hard work ahead, and is taking the challenge head-on.
Leave the past in the past, where it belongs.

Re: Shocking Records against Opponents
I’m with Wellard and Kosi. As far as this bunch of players is concerned, I think matching or improving on last year is the main task
Hopefully we win enough games in 2021 to qualify again. Not that easy making finals.
Bring in Lenny as an assistant and lets go deep into September
What’s Lenny Hayes up to anyway? Doesn’t he want to be part of a premiership at the Saints?

Not sure Lenny Hayes even lives in Victoria
And he didn’t last very long as an assistant coach

Re: Shocking Records against Opponents
Interesting stats samuraisaint, but not particularly relevant to St Kilda's prospects in 2021.
Most teams, especially those with limited success over the past 30 years, will have similar records.
Every contest has to be considered on its merits and neither St Kilda players or coaches will ever go into a game against any of those opponents on your list thinking they cannot win.
Records, positive or negative, are all eventually broken sooner or later.
St Kilda supporters, myself included, sometimes look at these stats with a sense of foreboding, when in reality we're better off remaining blissfully ignorant, which is easier said than done!
The other positive on this subject that I would like to contribute is my fervent belief that if (when ) St
Kilda play their next GF, Brett Ratten will not be out-coached!!

Re: Shocking Records against Opponents
To all people who say records don’t matter-the rationalists out there- witness India’s win in Australia this summer and the impact it is having on the press and players of India, especially imagine the kids ....
It will be a massive adrenaline shot. Australia are legendary, especially at home. Remember the America’s Cup in 1983! The impact of that win, that first win in a hundred years or whatever...huge impact, not only on sailors but more so the national (mostly white sports big an) psyche. It had an enormous punch, way out of proportion to the event itself. Sure the sailors were fighting, race by race, yard by yard (or chain or whatever nautical people call it) ...
We have to smash Geelong this year! Please come on Ratts!
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Shocking Records against Opponents
Agree with OP stating we need to be more competitive against all teams, but for me its Geelong & Collingwood are the two teams who treat us with contempt. Its time we started turning the tables on those clubs.
As far as Lenny Hayes is concerned, he has left his Assistant role at GWS, but think he is fairly entrenched back in life in Sydney.

Re: Shocking Records against Opponents
Yep, apart from North Melbourne who we beat every third time we play them on average, we have to play the others four times on average, to get one win against them.Wayne42 wrote: ↑Sat 30 Jan 2021 11:53pmThanks for for doing the extra work samuraisaint, it makes it easier for me to see just how bad our record against these clubs actually is in the time frame mentioned.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sat 30 Jan 2021 9:43pmSure - here goes:
Against Essendon - Won 18 - Lost 41 - Winning % = 30%
Against Geelong - Won 18 - Lost 45 - Drawn 1 - Winning % = 28%
Against Hawthorn - Won 19 - Lost 42 - Drawn 1 - Winning % = 30%
Against Collingwood - Won 21 - Lost 48 - Drawn 2 - Winning % = 29%
Against North Melbourne - Won 24 -Lost 42 - Drawn 1- Winning % = 35%
Pretty ordinary, isn't it?
The eighties were diabolical, yes, but the previous decade, the 2010s, were also particularly poor after 2012 in terms of our inability to beat reasonable opposition.

Re: Shocking Records against Opponents
A look at the Premiership sides is akin to looking at the EPL winners - and for the same reasons
So Carlton recruit Kernahan, Motley, Bradley and Naley (just from SA)
Whilst the equalisation agenda has succeeded to some degree it has been manipulated and continues to be by those with influence
And some get caught, such as Carlton

Re: Shocking Records against Opponents
Maybe we don’t beat those teams because we had a relatively poor side
How was our record vs them from 2003-2011?

Re: Shocking Records against Opponents
I bet they have rules now..in the ‘Newspeak’ lingo...
Rule 24.56
Coach should not counsel captain during matches or attempt to influence captains bowling choices, field placements and declaration decisions ...
And the like,...
You know ‘all professional and that’.
I’m nit being mean I can see it though...done for good intentions etc..

Re: Shocking Records against Opponents
Those teams have won 20 of the 30 premierships in that time.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sat 30 Jan 2021 8:40pmGood question - and yes I do - and it is still pretty p1$$ poor reading:
Only 18 wins against Essendon since 1990
Only 15 wins against Geelong since 1990
Only 19 wins against Hawthorn since 1990
Only 19 wins against Collingwood since 1990
Only 20 wins against North Melbourne since 1990
Only 16 wins against West Coast Eagles since 1990
Only 16 wins against Adelaide since 1991
Not a great return for thirty seasons is it?
