Post: # 1887374Post Unpluggered »

Unpluggered Podcast is back for another season of Saints Footy and we were delighted to speak with St Kilda FCW senior coach Peta Searle about the Saints preparation for the new campaign, including #7 Luke Dunstan joining the AFLW coaching panel, and how injuries to key players Bianca Jakobsson and Nicola Xenos have affected the squad:

Spot on. Patrikios had a hard tag early, but has broken that with gut running.

Razor Ray had a superb first half. Frees 13-3 our way, including 2 goals from 50m penalties .

Alice Burke yet to work her way into the game- I think the Dogs coach knows her game too well.

Couldn’t have been more obvious that last goal was going to happen!!!

2 on 1 vs Huntington and still couldn’t defend her

Patrikios will be a gun, but that attempted left foot on the half back line won’t be on her highlights reel - let the dogs back in.

Hope we go out to attack this last quarter! Is there a breeze? More goals seeming to come right of screen.

Good win! Love the G train, love seeing Burke and Burke have a cuddle after the siren, LOVE seeing the fire and passion from the team after the siren - all the first gamers were so pumped.

Frees were 26-6 our way. The most impressive part of our game was the ferocious tackling. They stuck their tackles , and all night Razor and the other umpire rewarded them.

Peta Searle has done a fabulous job with the team. In addition to the tackling , they have a clear game plan. They are prepared to hang onto the ball to find an option, they are prepared to switch play , and most importantly their skills with the ball have improved immensely, which allows them to play that possession game.

Good players all over the park, but Georgia Patrikios - 23 disposals, 4 tackles and a goal in 60 minutes of footy - was the absolute standout.

Very exciting stuff.

A good win but they over possessed the ball at times. Would much prefer the mids to drive the ball forward rather than attempt to finesse a handball under pressure. They do have a very young and inexperienced side so hopefully that will improve.

I have never seen a game umpired in the Saints favor so much.

Peta knows what she is doing and has the girls in the palm of her hand.

Really enjoying watching the women team and getting to know the players.

I would happily pay $10 to watch that (if I was in MEL).

Going places The Sainters are.

Also great to see Nathan hug Alice and a few of the Saints players after the game. Hope there is no neanderthal blowback for that.

Great gutsy win! Did my heart proud! Wonderfully supportive, positive vibe. I hope there never has to be a trade-off between that passion and professionalism as the years go by. I just love to see the women so pumped to play!

Have followed the girls since their first game last year and my support has been growing. Last night cemented it. Found myself cheering as I would one of the boys games. The tenacity, spirit and skills of the girls is outstanding. Well done Peta Searle!

That was the best standard AFLW I've seen. Much better than the so-called "blockbuster" between Collingwood and Carlton the night before.

Peta Searle has an exciting and talented group to work with. They appear well-drilled and attempt to play an exciting style, similar to the men's team.

I can only imagine how good they'll be with another 2-3 preseasons/years under their belts, to improve and develop skills, strength and endurance. So much young talent on display!

And do they go hard! No beg pardons out there last night. By the end, both teams were out on their respective feet. Great stuff, ladies!

Was a rather enjoyable watch and I was surprised by the passion and enthusiasm out there. I might try to get to the next game at Moorabbin

North Melbourne next week - they were in very ominous form down at the Cattery today. Will be a good test to see where we’re at against a very very physical and talented side, with some big bodies and experienced heads in that side!

Not sure what's happening in Adelaide (or what that's got to do with the price of fish), but apparently seats sold out for our game already. Hope some of them got snapped up by saints supporters!

Just saw the inside round 1 video. Don't the women sing the song so much better than the men - in tune, infectious enthusiasm and can understand the words. The guys need to lift.
