Robbo replacement
If Dylan does retire, what would be the plan to replace him? Re recruit Savage? Upgrade Wilkie? Recruit Egg/Smith from Rich? Maybe try youngsters like Callow and Heath. Who else is out there? What do all you die-hard sainters think?

Re: Robbo replacement
If Robbo does retire, and it seems likely he will, then Mason Wood shapes as his replacement. Like for like, if you will, at least in terms of physical stature. Mason may get a new lease on his career with a change of role. Ratts does love his "swing men."

Re: Robbo replacement
We're pretty well placed with half backs, maybe look at a strong bodied young tall forward (maybe a Callow) or a hybrid forward (Mason Wood may foot the bill)...a young developing ruckman is also needed but with potentially 4 spots to be filled, that should be sorted.

Re: Robbo replacement
How about giving a young kid a chance. Add him to the rotation and move Billings to the backline. I think he can really be AA at HBF.

Re: Robbo replacement
Looks like they have recruited a ready made Robbo replacement in Tom Highmore plus Wilkie plays a similar role as well.
With Carslile & Howard the only real key talls down back, I think we need another 198cm key back as we have Wilkie, Battle & Highmore as the mid sized tall backs covering the Robbo role.
Coffield also plays tall and rebounds well and there are plenty of small defenders with Long, Paton, Clark, Webster, Geary and potentially mids like Jones, Sinclair, Billings, Ross who could also provide rebound off half back.
I agree with above and wouldn't mid seeing Billings off half back.
Still a forward 8 rotation of Marshall/ Ryder, King, Membrey, Billings, Gresham, Higgins, Butler is enough talent to concern any opposition coach. I'd suggest the smalls of Billings, Gresham, Butler & Higgins forward would match any small group in the competition.

Well said Joffa...we now have a fleet of creative and damaging small forwards buzzing around big Max!!Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Sun 17 Jan 2021 2:21pm Looks like they have recruited a ready made Robbo replacement in Tom Highmore plus Wilkie plays a similar role as well.

Re: Robbo replacement
As I offered elsewhere, Callow has signed with a SANFL Club
This would indicate that no AFL Club is in negotiation with him
We have Frawley as a defensive back up for Howard and Carlisle
We have McKernan as back up for Ryder
In terms of the other members of our back 6/7 2020 gave us Coffield, Clark, Long, Paton and Wilkie
So that is 7 - and you could be excused for hoping that 2020 was only the start of a side built from defence
What I expect we will see is our mids pushing forward and hitting the scoreboard
So the rotations will be thru our forwards, our defence consistent so they “gel” as a unit
Not to suggest they did not “gel” as a unit in 2020 but a few absences hurt including at the wrong time

Re: Robbo replacement
Jonathon Marsh had signed for Richmond VFL when we signed him 2 years ago.
Sam Rowe was playing for Doncaster when we took him
Frawley had retired and was playing Ammos
Any contract would be easily broken if a player was selected to play AFL
That doesn’t mean he’ll be taken, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be..

Comprehend?
And I can tell you Callow’s full expectation is that he will be playing under the newly appointed Coach at The Parade in 2021

Re: Robbo replacement
How the hell would you know what AFL clubs are thinking?!
He is definitely unlikely to get on a list
But just because he’s signed at a club in a state league means FA

In regards Callow, at this present moment I know that no AFL Club is in communication with him

Re: Robbo replacement
How do you know that no AFL club has spoken to him in the last 3 months?
Did he tell you??
Right now
Libby and gags would be analysing the list and pouring through all the names of the unstaffed players and delisted players to see if there is anything we can add. Since we have 3 or 4 list vacancies.
Mason Wood is training with the Saints
Doesn’t guarantee him anything, but he may get added.
There might be a total surprise too
AFL clubs keep their cards pretty close to their chests

Re: Robbo replacement
A big young key back is our most glaring deficiency at the moment. There hasn't been a lot if noise about OC so maybe the club isn't sure what he'll become. We'll need to recruit a young key defender sooner or later. If only MKing had a bro...oh wait...

Re: Robbo replacement
Isn’t Clavarino the young key back?
Let’s see how he develops this year
Btw
Never said Callow hasn’t signed with whoever?!
Just that it doesn’t matter a f*** who he’s signed with, if an AFL chooses to list him!
Every player who gets picked up as a supplementary selection would have signed elsewhere. FFS

Re: Robbo replacement
There is no connection between my contributions on here and your fantasy rants
Callow has signed with Norwood and no AFL team is currently in any form of negotiation with him - he relocating to Adelaide from Launceston
Obviously things can change
But that is the current situation
End of subject
