Ghostlike

Early in his career, Coffield was a player who was devoid of confidence.

He was absolutely a deer in headlights with the footy and didn’t know when to go or not, so he hesitated and it didn’t look great.

I was at a Sandy game when he was playing in the midfield. And he got a bit of a spray from the coach telling him to use his f***ing size!

He was a young player, with a lot to learn and he needed to back himself more.

It’s fair to say, up until this last season he was a fair bit behind Hunter and now has arguably improved to the point where he overtook Clark.

Don’t think I ever saw Nick pull out of a contest, so never called him soft. There was times though, where he didn’t go third up and kill a contest. Didn’t need anyone to tell him either because he was immediately annoyed with himself.
Last year he grew much more confident and was an elite intercept marker. Amazing what self belief will do. Early in his career self doubt was obvious.

Carlisle
Well he doesn’t like contact and often doesn’t put his body on the line! Looks like Tarzan

Interesting.

What do you reckon his best position is?

Coffield?

Half Back

Similar to Nick Haynes, Brad Shephard, Jeremy Howe type... probably with more run and carry.

Was worried a little about him year 2

Now it seems he will be an A Grade defender

Disagree with every aspect of that analysis of Coffield

And what we saw in the Fremantle game at the end of 2019 and across 2020 is confirmation

To me, Coffield is more like Goddard. A lot quicker across the ground, though. As he gains experience, he can play a similar role that Goddard played when we were at our peak during the late 00s.

So to the top

What was your take on the first part of Coffield’s career?

I’m sure you would have a better idea.

Ryder exceeded all expectations but the pressure is on to back up
Geary looks like he might be outside the top 22
Hannebery’s durability remains a ?
Frawley was apparently completely spent 3 months ago
McKernan has a lot of detractors suggesting he really shouldn’t ever be top 22
Carlisle is signed on a year to year basis under the cloud of there is something odd in the relationship between he and club
Roberton is pbly going to pull the pin

Of all of these guys... it feels like anyone of them could be gone at anytime

That being said... the opposite could happen too
Carlisle, Hannerbery and Ryder could all be locks for 2 more years and an integral part of a 2021 premiership push

Frawley could be great depth, Geary could bob in and out to do jobs and McKernan could be realisable, versatility

It’s nice to see that we’re on par with many of the other leading clubs and below what Geelong is doing

Correct.he was a top ten pick!

Took him some time to find his feet, like many before him!

Some play well instantly L.Ball, N .Dal
Some take time Goddard, Montagna

Ball missed his entire first season if I recall correctly

Dal Santo had a break out game v Sydney at Docklands which confirmed the Club opinion he was class

Tiresome, whatever or whoever you are, tiresome - and in the extreme

Ball did miss his first year, choosing to concentrate on school as he was drafted as a 17yo year 11

Made immediate impact from his first game in 2003

Dal was nearly bog in his 2nd game with 25 poss.

His second season was interrupted by injury, but he average nearly 20ppg

I thought I had bought a crystal ball from some gypsies at the market. I was going to kick off my career as a clairvoyant/fortune teller.

All I was able to predict were long, cold winters. Turns out the bastards sold me a snow globe!

Boom tish!! Thank you very much. I'm here all week. I recommend the veal!

I have some little blue pills that could help him out with both of those problems! 😜
