No from me, sub sized KPP and has never been physical enough IMO.

Competing with Membrey, Battle and Allison.

I’d rather we rookie a young tall than Wood.

If we are looking at a mid sized lead up forward I hear Sam Sturt is looking to come home to Melbourne next year.

given Robbo's situation (A situation that I'm sure didn't come as a surprise to the club), could this be where the interest in Wood has stemmed from? Maybe there is plans for Wood to be deployed down back, or allow Battle to move back and Wood provides coverage up forward in that respect? If Wood can get himself right physically, then in the right environment who could do well IMO. He's certainly got the talent.

If we pick him up as a delisted free agent, is he a free Mason?

Clearly we should go for

The Tassie boy who’s a KPF
And
The young ruckman who missed out in the draft

If Robbo pulls the pin I’d think about Wood

Mason Wood has got some great attributes but his body has let him down, not dissimilar to Shaun Higgins & look how he's turned out.
I saw Wood train yesterday and he looks in ripping shape, very determined also, trained really well.

Not against getting Wood as a backup to Membrey, but at some stage we have to start bringing in some youth again.

This is it isn’t it

Frawley
McKernan

Then Wood as another guy that one pbly only has a year or two

Throw in some of our older players like Ryder and one can see an area of concern to work through

Is Ratts going for a much more mobile forward line that has speed and endurance rather than stay at home power forwards.
I would think that both your 2 statements are correct and accurate, Vortex.

He has always looked like a footballer but goes missing for large parts of the game. Did North ever play him across half back?

Thank you for the player stats, Wayne42. Does that mean that during the week, that he's only around 190 cm and only about 85 kgs? I mean, like in The Hulk - Dr Bruce Banner, most of the time, doesn't really weigh much and he's not really that tall.

In Mason Wood

Slight upgrade but purely a ready made depth option I suspect.

If Ryder goes down and Marshall plays full time ruck, Wood may come into the mix as a replacement forward depending on how King , Membrey & Battle are travelling
Yes, because we got burnt at our second final, it is actually exiting to think that the coaching staff are planning on set ups and strategies for next year, if we go deep into the final series, especially the big one! I.e. forward planning at the highest level!

I can't help but think that there is a reason that Ratts was recruited to the club and that is a very exiting and ambitious reason!

I hear Kim Duthie wants to train with St Kilda again.

Sorry saintmike, but mentioning Higgins and Wood in the same sentence is like comparing Reiwoldt & Rhys Stanley as key forwards.

Wood has lacked physical presence over his 60 odd games and was dumped by a basket case club at 27 which should be his peak as a player.

Higgins is at the end, but at best has been A grade and a solid B grade at worst over a 250 game (?) career & is an 2 X All Australian. Higgins was queried early career but underrated for his courage in the back half and was a highly skilled player.

We have debated Steven & Ross on this site, but for me Higgins was a superior player to both.

Personally I would't sign Wood on any contract.

I was't in favor of Frawley or Ryder for that matter, but at least both could stake claim to being very good players in the prime, though both are/were aging when signed. Both have/ will provide mentoring and leadership to the group and youngsters.

Wood is in his prime, is not a good player and who would want to be mentored by a guy who doesn't show any physicality in his playing style?

NEXT!

Callow, from North Launceston and mentioned by some on here, has, I am told, signed with a SANFL Club for season 2021

By extension therefore no AFL Club has been in discussion with him

Mason Wood's best position might be wing - a tallish wing?
He could average 20 possessions on a wing, and provide good run.

I agree he's not physical enough as a forward (and he's limited to 13-14 possessions as a forward).

But further up the ground (around wing, maybe), he can zip around like Dangerfield and be quite physical in that position - he's very athletic.
