No disrespect to Ross, but if Bytel leapfrogs Ross then Ross is unlikely to be in our 22.

Reason being that Ross needs to be in the mid rotations as that is where his strengths lie.

On the outside we have better options. For example apart from the obvious one like Hill, Billings, Hannas and Jones, Sinclair is a good outside player who sets up others beautifully...plus he is quicker.

Then if we play Highmore at hbf Coffield may play wing. Or Clark.

We are all talking about Bytel but I think Byrnes will be preferred to him.

Anyway he was this year. And I hear he is flying at training

I don’t think either will play a big part this season given the maturity and depth of the midfield at the moment.

It took three seasons for Coffield to become a key player and Clark looking to play mid more in 2021, so I would hope for 10 games from Bytel with a view to 2022 and 5 from Byrnes.

If either were best 22 at this early stage of their careers I’d be guessing we would not be finals bound.

Id guess the main mids/wings being Steele, Crouch, Jones, Gresham, Ross, Hannebery, Hill, Clark with guys like Billings, Higgins, Sinclair all rotating through with Dunstan, Bytel, Byrnes & Connelly back up.

Best 22

Paton Howard Wilkie
Long Carslile Coffield
Clark Crouch Hill
Billings Marshall Gresham
Higgins King Membrey

Ryder Steele Jones

Hannebery Battle Sinclair Ross

I think Geary will be in the 22 but he’s dropping further down the order IMO

I know he didn’t end up making the All Australian team, but you would think Butler has earned his spot in our best 22?

Yep, if he’d made All Australian I may have considered him

Ross is ahead of Kent (and Gears) but if they continue to insist on picking Kent...that means Ross gets a guernsey.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Wow, that's a big call Joffa, considering Butler was the team's leading goal kicker this year with 29!

Tend to think that Higgins and Gresham may well rotate through the midfield and Butler play small forward.

In the best 22 you've listed I'd reckon either Sinclair or Ross will miss out.....
