Damn it!

We missed out on Phoenix Spicer!

That’s the best player name since Garrick Ibbotsen

I'd say we're targeting someone....I'm going to take a stab with Max Heath as he is the best ruckman available....
Didn't happen. Picked another canberra boy. Good

Knightmare had him at 30....another Callum Wilkie story, hope so!

30. Brisbane - Tom Highmore

Height, Weight: 192cm, 89kg

Profile: Impressing in the NEAFL for a few years with his rebound from defence, Highmore joined South Adelaide in the SANFL to show against a higher level of competition his play can translate. A mature age prospect, Highmore is an excellent intercept mark who generates drive both by foot and with his run from defence.

Tom Highmore (South Adelaide – SANFL)

Age: 22

Position: Key defender (193cm, 92kg)

Average Champion Data ranking points: 88

The Canberra and Giants academy product’s move to South Australia for the 2020 SANFL season was a shrewd move. Highmore, who showed off his excellent intercept ability for the Allies at the 2017 national carnival, has incredible faith in his judgment and aerial ability, leading the league for average intercept marks (3.7). He also averaged 16.9 disposals per game – ranked fifth among key defenders. There could’ve been more hype around Highmore if it wasn’t for a mid-season ankle injury, which sidelined him for four rounds and probably limited his output upon return. Blessed with strong hands, athleticism and great skills, Highmore would be a shrewd pick-up for any club.

Allison a replacement for Mayo
Highmore a replacement for Logan Austin.

I can understand the McLeod-Allison pick needing another tall forward, but where does Highmore fit into the side. We already have Wilkie, Coffield & Roberton to play the 3rd defender role, why recruit another?

Well I dare say Roberton is likely on the way out...
Wilkie going to go proper key defensive post perhaps?

After this year, I could imagine a number of roles for Coffield, particularly playing outside midfielder/wing and blocking opposition defensive rebounds with Marshall and Ryder across half forward as he did in the juniors. He could eclipse Billings in the roles he plays or allow him to go forward.

Very happy with both selections, it will provide extra depth and apply a lot of pressure for spots both forward and back.

Tom Highmore in particular, 23 in February, looks ready to slip straight in and could relieve Nick Coffield at HB allowing latter to go to wing and midfield, especially as Brad Crouch will miss first 2 games.

I don’t know that I like this

Coffield is blossoming as a HBF... seems very well suited to it

Don’t know that a move out of a spot that he’s almost elite in is in his or the team’s best interest.

Honourable mention as well to Kevin Neale who spent a lot of time at the end of his career playing and coaching in Canberra leagues-- including premierships with Ainslie who wear Saints colours.

Could be salary cap, perhaps they are thinking ahead to 2022.

Delist / trade Roberton out at the end of 2021 and then you have Highmore as the fringe player (instead of Roberton) and on a lot less coin.

Wouldn’t be happy with that. I suspect Highmore is just a depth player.

It's 54 and a 4th for 43, I think.
That makes more sense.
It seemed to, but Hawthorn didn't use the pick. So, in the end, it was pick 43 (which became 45) for a future 4th.

Seems a steal, but I guess that depends on Tom Highmore and the as of yet unnamed future 4th.

Looking ahead to the 2021 Draft, the expected top 30 at this stage only contains one key forward and two key defenders. This year's draft was also thin on key position players. Could this be part of the consideration?
