I always thought the AFL was saying 38 plus 4 plus 2. Don't know where 37 came from except clubs must have a minimum of 37 on the lists and a maximum of 44.

I think it is: list = primary + rookies; 37 = list minimum = 36 primary + 1 rookie; 38 = maximum primary ; 44 = maximum list.

Marsh and Savage very unfortunate their contracts expired.

Is there a farewell event for the delisted/retiring group? How do those guys say goodbye and give us a chance to thank them/wish them well. Seems so clinically sterile the way they are shown the door. Surely having asked them for physical and emotional commitment (and fans having advised them how to go about it) for so long there should be a nice send off(s). ?? Not Cartier watches of course but something.

there has never been before,. why should this year be any different.
So far 135 players have either retired or been delisted across the 18 clubs.
With list numbers effectively reduced by 2 (most clubs can't find enough eligible players to fill all rookie B vacancies).
That means 135-36 = 99 players need to be recruited from now as delisted free agents or grabbed in the national and rookie drafts to refill player stocks.
5.5 per club.
St Kilda presently has 3 senior and 3 rookie A vacancies to fill.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know.

StKilda are moving Joyce and Clavarino to the Rookie list so 2 more senior list spots available.
OK, my head hurts. So, how many new players now need to be added to the senior list???
I believe it is 5. I am guessing they will elevate Wilkie ( I know they don’t have to, but it is a statement that the guy has done so well ), add Frawley and draft 3 kids. Personally I would have preferred keeping Savage instead of a pick in the 60s.

Good on you George, thanks for that. BTW, I agree with you very strongly about Savage.
I hear clubs can now redraft 2 delisted free agents to the rookie list and that has now been extended to 6 so what does all this mean can we redraft Savage and parker
Plus with OSCAR and Joyce on rookie list we are very small down back that is including Willkie only 191cm we will struggle against 200cm+ forwards like we did this season when Carlile was out.

Dont forget rookies can play anytime - they dont have to be upgraded to play AFL, hence Wilkie still on the rookie list.

Plus if you add Wilkie now, you lose 80k cap space.

It would seem that the delisting of Savage was a bit savage and premature ahead of AFL changing the rules on rookie listings.
St Kilda could not seriously be looking to use pick 93 that must surely be planned for a delisted free agent = Frawley.
Maybe the Saints could take Savage back as a delisted free agent as well.
Pick 74 will be about the last pick in the draft, 64 and 67 will be very late anyhow.

I would like to see Wilkie promoted of the Rookie List to utilise one of those later draft picks.
Then adding Frawley would use up 2 of the latter picks so we go with 3 picks.

Did chips take a late draft pick gee this is confusing, if they elevate Willkie does that mean we have 3 picks then use 2 and what of the other one is that for another they have identified who is delisted.
And can they or will they relist parker, or savage, Marsh and if so would they be on the list or rookies. So many questions.
I would like your opinion please you guys are all very knowledgeable and helpful.
