Anyone would think he is an A grade world beater.

Reality check. Played a total of 11 AFL games. Was not a regular in the Giants best 18.

Has potential, is the most you could say about him. Maybe potential.

If we get Higgins to go with Crouch and McKernan plus a Frawley, then I don't think we need a Caldwell.

Just saying.
I saw him as similar to Steele, who cost us a future second. Paying a first plus something seems a high price.

Correct. Jye is a very good player. He'll be excellent.

But he won't make us better next year. I can see Ross barely getting much of a run in our midfield next year, let alone Jye. Jye would spend a bit of time at Sandy should he have ever come to us.

Probably true. But I have to admire Essendon’s trade strategy if they pull it all off. Caldwell will be a 10 year player, Dunkley too. I’m glad we’re not going for Treloar because with Hannebery, Crouch and Hill we have already recruited three highly paid players who are into the last third of their careers. Caldwell and Dunkley are still in their first trimester. Would prefer to be recruiting a mix of younger guys as well who can be long term Saints. Like we did last year with Howard, Butler and Jones.

St Kilda actually took Max King at 4 in that draft but Caldwell was strongly considered.

Would GWS accept pick 21?

I know he chose the Bombers but surely he would come around to playing for the team he supported as a kid, if we could get the job done.

We don't have the trade currency to buy Caldwell (we have a vault protecting both 2000 and 2021 first rounders)
Our only hope of securing him this year is he goes into the pre season draft in which case expect Hawthorn to grab him ahead of Essendon.
Only if both of them fail do we get a look in.

Now if he goes back to GWS for a year then he is a possibility.

That's actually Richmond's first round draft pick we swapped FRDPs in the Higgins trade.
Presently pick 21 but lucky if not 25 or later on the night.
GWS says goodbye to you.

GWS capitulated for 2 seconds
Pick 29 and future 2nd both tied to Essendon so = 1306 points
Returned 44 and 74 worth 362 points
So Dildo got Caldwell for 944 points equivalent to pick 19.
