Re: Chips Frawley
Not keen on getting in another 30s player in. We do need help down back if Jake or Dougal go down. But I do really think if Oscar is the man they would have played him when Jake missed those games, on all accounts he was playing well in the trial games. But so was Matt parker and where is he now !!
Better off with a Josh Schache 199cm 23 years old 56 games he could play in ruck or forward as well as teach him to play back he is out of contract with bulldogs.
Oscar Mcdonald 23 196 cm from Melbourne another good prospect.
I am sure there are many more in the younger age bracket who would be at the club for 7-8 years not 1 possible 2.
The only think I could think off is there is someone in the draft they have targeted and are hoping Frawley will help develop him.

Have you watched him play at a lower level?
What makes you think he can turn it around when he can't get a game at a club screaming for forward power?
I was pumping up Peter Wright to get picked up by us because I have been watching him train and listening to him talk about how he has to be more aggressive and how he's training to bring that into his game.

Re: Chips Frawley
I think there’s more to this than the obvious.
Soft cap spending has been slashed for next year
All clubs have been forced to reduce their support staff accordingly.
How do you get an extra assistant?
Put him on your playing list
Roughead and Rath would know Frawley well
Maybe he’s going to be the backline mentor like Roughy is the forward line mentor?
Maybe they see him as a long term member of the support staff and this is a way of employing him?

Re: Chips Frawley
Reality is that Chips would walk into this team and be the immediate #1 back up defender for a year or two.
Much like McKernan and the ruck.
Idea is growing on me
Would look a lot better if we could move on Joyce

Now, to the topic. No, sorry James. I admired your decision to retire on 239 AFL games which left your late uncle on 240. Just leave it at that.

Re: Chips Frawley
Could be something in what you say. Also could go to the point and musing on Clav. Is there concern the feeder comp for the short term is not going to be the development resource it once was and having AFL ready players, even the vetran types, is the stop gap?Mr Magic wrote: ↑Wed 11 Nov 2020 8:38pm I think there’s more to this than the obvious.

Re: Chips Frawley
Strange decision to me.
Must mean that Roberton will be paid out to make cap space. Sad. I like him.
Also means that Howard was very very important. At the very least to lower Carlisle's cost.

Re: Chips Frawley
The reason for the interest in Frawley is that he can play on the power forwards.
He has pace and strength, unlike Carlisle, and look at how Howard struggled against Tom Lynch.
Frawley would play more games than people think!!

Oscar McDonald isn't up to AFL standard, not strong enough, decision making & disposal not good.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Wed 11 Nov 2020 9:07pm Saints58 mentioned Oscar McDonald whats his contract situation?

Quite possibly the worst player to play an AFL game in 2020. I'm not keen on Frawley, but he is Dustin Martin compared Oscar McDonald.

Spot on...there will be a lot more of this going forward, already happened at Melbourne with Nathan Jones doing a playing/ coaching role, before that Hodge and Birchall at Brisbane.bakes wrote: ↑Wed 11 Nov 2020 8:42pm100% agree, great post.Mr Magic wrote: ↑Wed 11 Nov 2020 8:38pm I think there’s more to this than the obvious.

Re: Chips Frawley
Roberton is more of a tall flanker/ 3rd tall type, not a key defender so likely to be still listed next year.minneapolis wrote: ↑Thu 12 Nov 2020 5:45am Strange decision to me.

If Ratts thinks it’s a good idea, then I’m in and so we all should be.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: Chips Frawley
Holy hell. If we get Oscar in then we're trying to tank already. Go ask a Melbourne supporter what they think of dear Oscar. Good spoiler but, not strong nor quick enough and Raph Clarke-like in the decision making stakes.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Thu 12 Nov 2020 8:19amOscar McDonald isn't up to AFL standard, not strong enough, decision making & disposal not good.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Wed 11 Nov 2020 9:07pm Saints58 mentioned Oscar McDonald whats his contract situation?

Re: Chips Frawley
Good grief I can’t believe this conversation.
Have any of you guys in favour of this watched him play this year, absolutely done..
And for those who say it doesn’t cost us anything ... it does
1 it costs us a place on a reduced list that could be used for someone who may give us more than a year ( and I include McKernan in this), so now 2 spots going to aged 1 year list fillers
2 it costs us the potential development of a younger player, look at Brisbane , they played their young Jack Payne when they had to ( I think 3 or 4 games for the year).
The club would want to make damn sure that these players come in with motivation a plenty and not just see it as a benefit, otherwise this could be crippling to our young players morale

Re: Chips Frawley
The idea that our "young" backline is in need of mentoring is quite amusing. I thought our backline this year looked and functioned the best of any St Kilda backline in a decade.
I suspect that because Austin was cut, Clav will be offered a one year contract or be rookie listed. I believe Clav being around the club will keep Carlisle's performance honest.

100% agree with you terry, I dislike bringing in stop gaps however I was vehemently against recruiting Paddy Ryder who was overweight and lacked mobility in his last year at Port Adelaide and was completely wrong on that one as he showed up fit and ready to fire.terry smith rules wrote: ↑Thu 12 Nov 2020 10:20am Good grief I can’t believe this conversation.

Ratts gave opportunity to Long, Wilkie, Paton & Coffield and backed them in where under the past regime I'm sure Savage, Webster, Geary, Mckenzie & Roberston may have been preferred.
I think if Clav was up to it he'd have got a game when Carslile was dropped.
I'm hoping Clav makes it this year even if signed on as a rookie as I really like his marking ability.
Instead of McKernan I wanted Wright and really hope we don't take Frawley.
