I would have thought case closed. It’s very unfair for Paddy, especially as he wants to play.

Then, I heard second-hand that Caroline Wilson reported on a calling of a General Review of the AFL itself.

It sounds like a pretty comprehensive review.

I heard Tim Watson say that we should leave the rules alone, however the remit of such a review would include rules.

Therefore, I suggest if the rules of contact cannot be messed with - I.e. (or is it e.g?) we want contesting and bumping etc., then I would throw in the idea that we consider 16 players on the field and four interchange.

16 players on the field in zones will likely decrease congestion....maybe that will halo with concussion?

Unless the rules are comprehensively revised, I don’t think anyone would or should allow Paddy to play. I’ve been reading about helmets here, and I’m dubious.

difficult subject matter indeedy

the ‘cons’ ledger seems stronger than the ‘pros’

though if he doesn't get a shot
he might end up playing ammos

the risks being amplified

See the Port guy - the guy with hemet - go down tonight? He’d already been out Rounds 12-14 with concussion....and there he goes again. It looked pretty bad when he came off.

Ebert - I was thinking at the time "If that was Paddy - All Over!" and it seemed so innocuous.

From the heraldsun.com.au

"Hinkley confirmed Brad Ebert would retire after finishing the game on the bench after another concussion.

“It’s pretty clear if you watched him coming off the ground tonight, Brad’s done as an AFL player, he’s got to put himself, his health and family first,” he said.

“He gives everything to our footy club, he’ll walk away knowing he did everything he possibly could, I’ve had a lot of conversations with Brad this year and the courage of that man is amazing and he kept at it right to the end.

“Brad will certainly retire and, if anything, tonight (Friday0 would have absolutely confirmed it for Brad.

“I’ve been here eight years and that (going back with the flight) is what Brad’s always done, you can’t question the way he trains, prepares, plays, he gave everything he had, he’s a great teammate, a great dad, great husband, he won’t be lost from the club altogether he will always be part of the Port Adelaide footy club.”

My prediction for Paddy - he will find another club and he will blossom and never have another Concussion - and tear us up every time we play against him.

But that's just my take as a St Kilda supporter.

Unless the argument is that we were negligent in managing his concussion issues... just don’t see how he could blossom.
And more to the point, with Covid resulting in little football outside of the major leagues, he remains untested.

I mean it’s great he hasn’t had further I’ll effects and recovered...
But the issue was getting through games unscathed rather than the off-season.

The hope for him is if he changes his style of game.

Look at King as the example...
Vulnerable knee. Don’t see him doing a lot that makes you guy... ooooh that looked dangerous
