This is how the Crouch deal will go down.......
Adelaide will match our offer forcing a trade.
Adelaide trade Crouch and pick 20 and pick 50 to St Kilda
St Kilda trade pick 15 and pick 58 and Dunstan to Adelaide
Source - My friends wife works for one of Adelaide's masseurs.
The deal is heavily in our favour still so in effect we still get Crouch "free" with just a 5 pick downgrade and salary dump Dunstan.

Nah.
They match the offer and we walk.

I think there is a lot of goodwill here, on both sides.
Crouch doesn't want to dud his old club. St Kilda don't want to pay the amount that will trigger a pick 2.
The compromise, I think, and on radio this morning the Adelaide list manager said as much, is a player plus a pick for Crouch.
Not Adelaide's preferred position by any stretch, but one they would accept.

Adelaide are absolutely kidding themselves if they honestly think pick 2 is the compensation they deserve for Crouch. The bloke's coming off an injury interrupted season with a drug ban chucked on the end. A bit of a risk for us anyway.
At the end of the day, if we don't like the situation then we walk and go grab Treloar or Caldwell. Plenty of options out there. Adelaide can go rot in the bottom four for the next five to ten years.

Drug cheats can't trade out their 1st round draft pick so Caldwell might very well be back on the trade table.Lennylegs wrote: ↑Wed 28 Oct 2020 1:56pmThis is fine if true. I got that feeling listening to Adam Kelly this morning. He knows the AFL won't give them pick 2 because we're not going to be paying $800K to get the band 1 compo so, he's just posturing now to get the best deal. Dunstan's salary dump for Crouch and a loss of 5 places in the draft is fine by me. Dunstan was behind Bytel in the end. Monetise his value whilst we still can.damienc wrote: ↑Wed 28 Oct 2020 1:33pmI think there is a lot of goodwill here, on both sides.

Re: This is how the Crouch deal will go down.......
Why wouldn't Adelaide take the pick 19 from the AFL and separately agree to a deal that gets them Dunstan for a 3rd rounder?
Or Duntsan and Webster for a 2nd rounder?
They already have picks 1, 8, 20, 29, 44, 50, 60, and 74.
Throw pick 19 into that mix and they have a great swag of picks to build a team.
They need a pick to get Hately probably a future 2nd round could get that done.
If there's so much good will from both parties then the Crouch deal won't need to be matched.
Surely Dunstan and pick 19 for Crouch and pick 44 is not a bad deal?

Re: This is how the Crouch deal will go down.......
So, the Crows refuse compo that would give them pick 20 and 21 and instead take 15 and Dunstan off us? What am I missing here?
I'm also not buying that we owe it to Crouch to make sure he's playing for us next year. Once the paperwork is lodged, we've done our bit. He's either playing for us on a contract he likes, the Crows on a contract he likes, or he's going to the draft. If the Crows match, we should move on, just like we did when Caldwell picked the Bombers. No shenanigans - just move on.
In the games where Crouch wasn't tearing his hamstring, he averaged 5.2 turnovers per game. Only Dion Prestia averaged more turnovers than that. I don't believe that missing out on him will be any level of disaster. We think he can play better for us than he did for them, fine. If the Crows are going to be obstinate and ask us to invent band 1.5 compensation for them because they're sad about missing out on pick two, then we should walk. No point being pushed around by big clubs over sub-elite players.

Adelaide get #15 Dunstan & #58
Lose #20 & #50
Why not do a side deal with Saints and not match the bid using the same formula.
Saints trade Dunstan & #15 & #58 to Adelaide for #20 & #50
Adelaide now get Dunstan, #15 + #19 compensation pick + #58 while losing only #20 & #50
Why would Adelaide throw away the free compensation pick by solely trading?

Because Adelaide would win that deal hands down - even for the salary dump - may as well give Dunstan away for free and keep Pick 15Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Wed 28 Oct 2020 10:30pmIt doesn't make any sense to me on Adelaides perspective.SaintPelican66 wrote: ↑Wed 28 Oct 2020 12:54pm Adelaide will match our offer forcing a trade.

If they match St Kilda they only get what St Kilda gives them.
They don't get pick 21 from the AFL.
St Kilda must give them a deal that is better than pick 21.
Like pick 15 for Crouch.
The deal may be pick 15 & Dunstan & 58 for Crouch & pick 50
No way we will see pick 20 coming back.

This scenario has some merit, if Adelaide does match our offer, #15 will need to be used...only potential sticking point do the Crows want Dunstan!

Re: This is how the Crouch deal will go down.......
Let Adelaide match the offer, call their bluff.
They'll be stuck paying a higher salary to a player that essentially doesn't want to be there...worked well with Daniher/Essendon didn't it???
Let's not get into games whereby we pay a player a LOT more than he's worth just so Adelaide can gain an unrealistic Pick 2 in the draft - the AFL will be all over that like a cheap suit and rightfully do. Also does nothing for morale to be paying really big bucks to a talented but very injury prone player.
My advice would be to let it go Saints if they decide to match - it's all about "FREE AGENCY' after all - Crows are looking to exploit the system for their own good.
