Do not trade Lonie & billings
My reason for keeping Lonie is he is a goal kicker and they are hard to come by especially when you play as a small forward I know we have butler but he generally plays a bit different role.
Lonie does not have that much pace but we have enough players that do, he gives forward pressure and he scored a goal almost every game.
He doesn't often get beaten.
Trade Sinclair he is quick but does not kick goals and at times has very pore disposal is good when going forward but not forward pressure. The other player is Hind I like him but he is worth some currency might get some picks for him.

Trade anyone if we get the right value.
I don't think anyone will be willing to part with picks 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 for Marshall though.

Re: Do not trade Lonie & billings
Sinclair was played mostly as a defensive midfielder under Ratts when he came back this year and rotated with Hunter through the midfield. My guess is Ratts plan is to make that a permanent gig for Sincs as Hunter transitions into the midfield.Saints58 wrote: ↑Mon 26 Oct 2020 10:01am My reason for keeping Lonie is he is a goal kicker and they are hard to come by especially when you play as a small forward I know we have butler but he generally plays a bit different role.

Agree it would be nice to hang onto Lones and Billings but their type are around in abundance so if the club continues to be bold and aggressive then they have currency and we could lose them.
Hind has zero currency.

Has anyone seriously suggested trading Billings!

Re: Do not trade Lonie & billings
Unfortunately, he has been around the club long enough to have reached his limit.
Does not have the right physique or enough aggression in his role to help win the big finals we are after.
We have Hill.
Get what we can for JB now.
No room for sentimentality; that has cost the club big in the past.
While they are at it, they can piss Lonie off too. Will never win us a big final.

Re: Do not trade Lonie & billings
Trade Lonie now while we still can, he’s not big enough, quick enough or physically strong enough to play the role we need him too and his set shots are woeful for a bloke paid to kick goals.
Houli destroyed him in our last game, all the good teams play a bigger bodied defender on him and he just can’t compete.
Billings stays, he’ll continue to develop under Ratts and while he never be the superstar we hoped for he will become a very good 250+ game player.

Re: Do not trade Lonie & billings
I reckon they would love to keep him, but Billings would definitely be on the table.
Lonie might make the call himself. Other clubs are desperate for small forwards and he could get both cash and longer deals elsewhere.
Gotta get our list better.

Re: Do not trade Lonie & billings
I really, really like Jack as a player but, much like if Webster and Dunstan would be part of sweetening the Crouch deal then - you have to give to get. It depends on what we'd get for Jack as to whether I'd be happy to let him go. Early 2nd rounder? Nope? Late 1st rounder? Probably not. Somewhere around about 10-ish? Yes - so long as we're going to use that pick to upgrade on Jack to either a better version of himself or to get a player in a position we're deficient in.
Billings and our 2020 1st rounder for Tarranto? Yes - I think so.
As for Lonie - with Crouch coming in - I see that meaning Gresham playing more as a forward/mid and, he'll then push-out either one of Kent or Lonie. And that's a good thing.
Here's something I've been thinking about today though ... if Lonie was to depart - how good would it be to replace him with Jack Higgins from Richmond? Freaking hell - that bloke can't get a look-in and he's a jet of a small forward. Contracted til the end of 2021 but sheesh - be worth asking the question ...

Higgins also keen to go mid in future plus far better defensively and overhead than Lonie yes please
Taranto is a fantasy......would seriously be the next Dusty type get.....but never gonna happen while contracted
I’d paclakge pick 15 Billings, Billings father, Lonie and anyone else to make this reality...

This trade discussion certainly passes muster IMO.johnearljames wrote: ↑Mon 26 Oct 2020 8:06pm Is this trade discussion approved by the trade discussion gatekeepers?
Where is the article and source?
1. It names players & clubs
2. It suggests what value on each player
3. It even pontificates over what gets the deal(s) done
4. There is no source required as it is merely speculation
5. No-one is pretending to be an ITK
Now if only they started a new thread, written words that mean nothing and provide as much specific information as the daily horoscope they'd be right up there with your ITK posts parkey/ted/flamingo/james.

Re: Do not trade Lonie & billings
If we are going to challenge for a flag spuds like Lonie, Kent and Hind need to be traded out/delisted. Its's as simple as that I'm afraid.Saints58 wrote: ↑Mon 26 Oct 2020 10:01am My reason for keeping Lonie is he is a goal kicker and they are hard to come by especially when you play as a small forward I know we have butler but he generally plays a bit different role.

Re: Do not trade Lonie & billings
If he stays for 2021, Jack Billings is out contract at the end of next year. He’ll be 26 and will have been 8 years with the Saints. Would that make him a RFA?

Re: Do not trade Lonie & billings
Encouraging to see that at least one member of this forum can see the situation for what it is.
Clearly by only offering short term contracts, the club also does not rate him highly
For me, I have for several years used him as my litmus test of how the team is travelling - to my mind, whilst he is consistently getting games the Sainters are never going to go anywhere.
Standards need to be lifted - "near enough" should no longer be "good enough"
Hopefully he finds a new happy home soon and I can cancel all my future counselling sessions
No doubt he is a lovely bloke, good clubman etc, but the club has to become ruthless not simply a friendly haven for nice people.
AFL is brutal and now is the time for the Saints to harden up

Re: Do not trade Lonie & billings
Happy to keep JB , skilful players are premium.
Lonie had a good year and would be fine to hold....but his trade value has never been so high
Would part with him for a decent pick

Re: Do not trade Lonie & billings
If that pick is getting us a player we have targeted as a need then yes.
Example; #32 for Bruce was on traded to Swans for Jones
If it is a speculative 3rd rounder I'd prefer to keep Lonie.

Re: Do not trade Lonie & billings
Good comparison re: Bruce. However, if that same speculative 3rd rounder could be used to Jack Higgins ... I'd personally give Lonie a dink on my BMX's handlebars to wherever he wants to go.Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Tue 27 Oct 2020 10:42amIf that pick is getting us a player we have targeted as a need then yes.
