What an idiot. An opportunity to play with the club he grew up supporting and he chooses the most disgusting football club in the country. Well Jye, you've made your bed. You lay with dogs, you get fleas. A puke- worthy moment if ever there was one

It's no longer a conundrum, Caldwell wants to go to the hangar.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

He went for $$$$$. Simple as that. I hope his parents enjoy their new luxury mansion, but it'll be hard to sleep with all that cash stuffed under the mattress.

You know when a decision just feels wrong.....!!

Jye if you read this......it's not too late to change your mind.

A Saints premiership will go down in sporting history.

And there's plenty of money in it , if that's the concern.

Tell ypur manager to STFU and deal with the Saints.

Doping scandal
Players abandoning Essendon like the plague
Club is going nowhere
Chance to play for his childhood club that played finals

If there’s any one sign that his decision making under pressure is not up to par and not something we want at the club, this is it

Enjoy the money Jye... may well be your last contract after they stuff up your development

The assisted clubs are not going to be able to compete with the unassisted clubs and it will get worse.

The Dons dont have the same administration type control and monitoring over their finances so they can offer way more than the assisted clubs and can continue hiding dodgy deals because the AFL doesn't have full access to their books.

Word is he wants to get a pretty much guaranteed run in the midfield and we've now got Crouch. So, money and midfield game opportunity would seem to have driven his decision (unfortunately for us).

Im always of the belief things happen for a reason. Remember a few years ago we were going to give up 2 x 1st round choices for Dylan Sheil. Sheil has been ordinary since he has been at the bombers and the 1st round choice would have been Max King. So things happen for a reason ala Caldwell going to Essendon is not the end of the world.

Yep see what you’re saying. Would have preferred though a young gun than a 26 year old who’s injury prone. So we still have our first rounder to deal with - providing the Crows don’t get it. There will surely be other irons in the fire.

A 20 year old with 11 games under his belt wants to go straight into the midfield !! If true then I'm happy we didn't get him.

Im disappointed, but it is a bit of a concern if part of a deal is that he wants to be parachuted into a starting spot.

If you're worth that money....You earn your spot

Not a done deal...
Given Essendon's demands for trades, I am not sure how Essendon are going to get the deal done. GWS don't have a pick in the first two rounds to offer Essendon.
Essendon would expect Caldwell and at least a first round pick for the third round pick they'd part with to GWS.

At least $2.5 million over 5 years. Hunter Clark and Max King are not on that kind of money. How could we have possibly matched that without many players on our list raising an eyebrow in disapproval? Jack Bytel now has his moment to propel himself into that midfield.

Next please.
He was never ours. I'm sure he'll enjoy his time at Essendope.
We've already improved our midfield with Crouch and we've got Bytel and Byrnes as young midfielders to develop.

If he thinks he'd find it hard to get into our midfield it shows he lacks confidence in his ability.
At the money he is chasing I'm not fussed at missing out.

Good luck to him .
Obviously our recruitment team think we are closer to a premiership by recruiting Crouch mature body experienced player than havibg to recruit a 20yo who has only played 11 games.

Don’t be upset I remember the dopers being very upbeat about getting Darcy Parish for our pick 5 in the Carlisle deal and seem to have turned him into an also ran, Jye may well go the same way.
We can now concentrate on holding onto a better players and getting a young ruckman that would allow Marshall to play forward

Pick 15(?) in the draft can still net a very good player who doesn't yet cost 500k per year!!!

While he has potential he is unproven for that kind of money and commitment for us to make to him re mid field time. Don’t you have to earn the money and mid field time?
He has been at GWS for two years and if he was that good he would have had more mid field time there even if they have a great mid field, which was not that great this year anyway.
I would much rather invest in Bytel and Byrne and give them a fair opportunity at mid field time and the money that will come if they prove themselves.
