Bombers trying to poach Caldwell
Just on SEN
Bombers all out to snare Caldwell.
Got cash and picks.
Any ITKs with info on whether he has privately committed to us?

Re: Bombers trying to poach Caldwell
He needs to nominate which club he wants to go to, and then a deal can be made. As an uncontracted player if he doesn't want to got to Essendon, he doesn't have to. If he wants to come to us, we will have to cough up a reasonable compensation to GWS.

Re: Bombers trying to poach Caldwell
Hard to imagine anyone wanting to go to Essendon in the current climate
Even cashed up... I’d be mindful of getting trapped in a toxic environment long term. If I backed my own talent... would be more inclined to chase money and success even in a shorter term with the opportunity of Getting what I wanted later

Re: Bombers trying to poach Caldwell
If he is coming to us I would think he will nominate as soon as our season is finished.
Hopefully we are ready to sign up our players we need for the future .
Paton, Lonie and Jake would be a good start.

Re: Bombers trying to poach Caldwell
The fact nothing has come out about him generally means either he still negotiating to stay or the team he wants to go to is still playing. Daniher was the exception as Essendon forced his hand, and wasn't exactly a secret.
Probably same reason Higgins hasn't said Geelong yet.
If he is a good as some on here have talked about will be a bonus.
Essendon a basket case, and still have to re sign McGrath yet.

Saints are destination club.
Bombers are a club without a destination.

Re: Bombers trying to poach Caldwell
As if he would go to a club that is a basket case like Essendope. They will be lucky to field a VFL strength team next year. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of cheating scumbags.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: Bombers trying to poach Caldwell
They're in all sorts now. Don't underestimate the loss of McKenna and Saad - they were the only point of difference they had ... speed off half back. But it's really easy to defend. The rest of their team are very, very outside (Shiel, Smith, Merrett and Parish) and their forwards are average and backs ageing (except for Ridley).happy feet wrote: ↑Thu 08 Oct 2020 1:18pm As if he would go to a club that is a basket case like Essendope. Even if they were to get a Caldwell - he's not going to help them any time soon - he'll be a compliment to a midfield group; not a silver bullet to a sh!t one.
That said - I really do hope that we land Caldwell and not the doping sh1theads from Tulla. That would really pi$$ me off.
I have a gut feeling young Jye might stay at GWS though - Jackson Hately going back to Adelaide means there'll be more cash and opportunity at GWS.
Go you red, black & white warriors

Who can Essendon realistically expect to come to our mob given the current atmosphere?

Someone like Ben Brown who is crying out to prove North Melbourne wrong. They are into Jy Caldwell according to Sam Edmund. But again if you were Caldwell would you go to St Kilda who look in the window for years to come and won a final only days ago or would you go to Essendon, who haven't won a final in 16 years?"
Ralphie is right for once.

Re: Bombers trying to poach Caldwell
Comical that anyone would want to go to a club where half the list are wanting out. Typical Dodoro beat up to take some heat off everyone wanting to leave. What a s*** fight this trade period is going to be with Essendon involved in so many trades!

Re: Bombers trying to poach Caldwell
I don't think anyone WANTS to go to Essendon, only if they have nowhere else to go. If a player chooses Essendon over 'club B', you have to question their mentality and we don't want them. Same with the Roos.

Spot on....only reason anyone goes to Essendon is bags of money not being offered elsewhere.skeptic wrote: ↑Thu 08 Oct 2020 11:30am Hard to imagine anyone wanting to go to Essendon in the current climate

Players hate Rutten, there is a disconnect between the assistants and Rutten and Dan Richardson
is not the players favourite either....just what I have heard.
It's great watching this all unravel with more departures quite possible.

100% this
And it will get worse.
To get Jungian for a moment:
If you don't deal with your shadow it turns toxic.
Bombers been in denial about their culpability in the doping scandal.
Karma bus only just started.
Wait for the class action from past players.

Do we make hay while the sun shines?
Who could we get from the dopers that would improve our list immediately. Seems all are on the table

Re: Bombers trying to poach Caldwell
Seriously, why would Caldwell go to a rabble club in Essendon?
Better off staying at his club who are always finals contender now or move to an emerging club in the Saints who just won a final.
Moving to Essendon is a death trap.

Get Caldwell for 2021 & land Zach Merrett for 2022. Seems simple, both will enjoy kicking to Ming & Bing.

Matthews will have big questions to answer for this stuff up letting his blindness over the coach cost the club dearly.
Questioning my membership for next season starting to wonder if we are in good hands.

Re: Bombers trying to poach Caldwell
Looking forward to John Worsfold's book on how to do successful transitions. Sheedy back on the Board might suggest Hird is still agitating in the background and Dons are trying to neutralise that and leverage Sheeds to attract players. The ill considered and disastrous drug cheating program still weighs heavily on the club and the key protagonists - including ex-AFL supremo Demetriou who is not looking too flash or ethical in other unrelated legal proceedings (note Gillon was his hand picked successor). Probably still a lot of time to go before Essendon and the AFL can put it all behind. Surely no manager with integrity and in their right mind would steer their men towards the Dons at the moment (who does manage D. Shiel?). We are well and truly over being a basket case but a couple of other clubs have quickly taken our spot. If Dons are trying for Caldwell it is likely to make us look so good to him by comparison.
