This has to be right. Stellar season.

If they do pick a “proper “ team, it should have 2 small forwards ( Ratts seems to like 3 , but 2 is enough ) in the 22.
If so, Butler should get in. I think he is behind Liam Ryan, but ahead of Papley, Swans play Papley as a one-out forward with plenty of space , whereas Dan has to work hard for his goals in a crowded forward line in the classic small forward manner . Plus he is much better defensively than Papley.
So it turns out they did not pick a proper team. They just put 3 midfielders in the forward line , because they didn’t have the guts to tip out some of their old favourites. Why not stick one or two of them in the backline ? Or on the wing ( Guthrie ??? for goodness sakes ) .

It is like picking a test team with 6 all-rounders , and opening the bowling with Shane Watson because he can ( could ) also bat a bit; or giving one of the allrounders a pair of keeping gloves because they catch really well at first slip.

You either make a list of the best 22 players in the competition, irrespective of position ; or you pick a proper team , structured in the way that pretty much every team is structured- 6 backs plus one on the bench , 6 forwards plus one on the bench , and 6 midfielders plus 2 on the bench . If you aim to pick a proper team, then you reward the best players in those positions across the year. This “team “ is neither of those things .

Very pleased for Jack , but Dan was dudded.

Dusty and Danger haven't even had good years (by their lofty standards). Bont didn't really get going until the Doggies started finding form about 6-7 games ago.

I don't understand why they don't play players where they actually play. Butler & Papley should have been locks in that forward line.

And Guthrie?

Compare his stats with Steele yourself - https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_ ... 1=S&fid2=S

Very soft decision. The game should recognise an outstanding season by a specialist. Instead they've shoehorned in a couple of mids they couldn't find a spot for in the middle
I agree with bigcarl and George27.

How many fuckn goals did Danger and Bont kick for the year? Butler scored more than the 2 of them combined

Notice they didn’t have the balls to knock out any pure defenders from their defensive posts. How is it that they pick 6 blokes who play in the backline all year and yet they can’t pick 6 guys who play in the forward line all year?

The small forward has a specific role to lock in the footy with pressure and speed and tackling. The modern game demands at least 2 blokes who are specialists.

Dan Butler deserved a spot in the 22.

Brilliant for Jack, and just stoked we had players in the squad again.

Butts will be laughing on the other side of his face if he continues to star in the finals.

The football establishment would be highly peeved by Jack Steele's inclusion. Isn't there a rule that you cannot select StKilda players?

Hasn't Guthrie failed in finals?

Time and again.

Am I wrong?

Butler not making the team very disappointing but also Steele not being named in the starting 18 is disgusting.

Steele in the top 5 MVP votes, 4th in the Coaches Award and in the top few in every other B&F award.

Hope Butts doesn’t take this the wrong way and take it out on the Bulldogs 😏

It's rubbish naming midfielders in the forward pockets.
On today's criteria , Stephen Milne would never have been picked.

Three players in there we could have drafted and passed on.

Bont - Billings
Petracca - McCartin
Daniel - Lonie
