So it turns out they did not pick a proper team. They just put 3 midfielders in the forward line , because they didn’t have the guts to tip out some of their old favourites. Why not stick one or two of them in the backline ? Or on the wing ( Guthrie ??? for goodness sakes ) .George27 wrote: ↑Thu 24 Sep 2020 12:13pmThis has to be right. Stellar season.
If they do pick a “proper “ team, it should have 2 small forwards ( Ratts seems to like 3 , but 2 is enough ) in the 22.
If so, Butler should get in. I think he is behind Liam Ryan, but ahead of Papley, Swans play Papley as a one-out forward with plenty of space , whereas Dan has to work hard for his goals in a crowded forward line in the classic small forward manner . Plus he is much better defensively than Papley.
It is like picking a test team with 6 all-rounders , and opening the bowling with Shane Watson because he can ( could ) also bat a bit; or giving one of the allrounders a pair of keeping gloves because they catch really well at first slip.
You either make a list of the best 22 players in the competition, irrespective of position ; or you pick a proper team , structured in the way that pretty much every team is structured- 6 backs plus one on the bench , 6 forwards plus one on the bench , and 6 midfielders plus 2 on the bench . If you aim to pick a proper team, then you reward the best players in those positions across the year. This “team “ is neither of those things .
Very pleased for Jack , but Dan was dudded.
