Rowan Marshall ridiculously unlucky. Much better than Gawn this season. Also Zac Butters and Maynard FFS.

Pick #56 for a 27 goal small forward and AA nominee (likely to make the cut).
Future 2nd round pick for a certain (IMO) AA this year & B&F plus multiple other awards.

Not bad trading.

Add that to the 3 named in the 22 under 22, and you can add good drafting recently as well (even if they all were top 10 picks)

And one of the three was part of the Hawthorn trade 8-)

Personally thought Rowan Marshall had a stronger year than Dan Butler.

Butler v Papley
Papley 15 more disposals made up of 5 kicks and 10 handballs
Papley 23 more marks
BUT
Butler 32 more tackles, more than double Papley
And less waste Butler 27 goals Papley 26, Butler 11 behinds Papley 27.
Butler works inside and out, Papley only outside.
Butler is better.

But the selectors have given the ruck to NicNat and Gawn and the full forward to Hawkins already.

Steele will be left in the also rans.
Butler may make it, but only if the selectors choose a small forward to play the small forward role instead of finding a place for an excess of midfielders.

Accoriding to Slobbo, Steele will line up as the AA Centre and he’ll be in the starting 18. You have to remember that Murdoch papers are very good at tapping people’s phones and having the right connections within the telcos to get the ‘inside’ word. I’m sure that’s where Carro gets all her thorces from as well

Anyhow, we’ll see how things unfold tonight. We finished sixth ffs, and they only nominated 2 Saints players, whereas you have have other teams in the top 8 with four or five nominated. I think it’ll be criminal if we don’t get both our players in the final 22.

I think it’s time they changed some of the people who vote for the AA team. I’m pretty sure that some of the guys who are on the selection panel don’t watch much football. How would a bloke who has multiple jobs, multiple business interests and also has a family and several kids have enough time to watch each game each round? Yes, Luke Darcy I’m talking about you specifically!

Jack has to be in the starting 18 He’s had a better season than some other players who’ll be in it including dung-in-field

This has to be right. Stellar season.

If they do pick a “proper “ team, it should have 2 small forwards ( Ratts seems to like 3 , but 2 is enough ) in the 22.
If so, Butler should get in. I think he is behind Liam Ryan, but ahead of Papley, Swans play Papley as a one-out forward with plenty of space , whereas Dan has to work hard for his goals in a crowded forward line in the classic small forward manner . Plus he is much better defensively than Papley.

Reading on BF, George that Petracca will prolly be named on a HFF as the mids will be Jack, Neale and Boak. So that may squeeze Dan out.

Most on BF agree that dung-in-field doesn’t deserve to be in the 22 (he’ll prolly be f****** captain grr) but will get in cos of his name. And a few think the same of Dusty.

Winning 3 of the last 8 rounds probably tells you we are lucky to have 2 in the squad.

I wouldn't worry to much about Steele not being in the starting line up.

He gets in the team and no one remembers what position they have been picked.

Very soft decision. The game should recognise an outstanding season by a specialist. Instead they've shoehorned in a couple of mids they couldn't find a spot for in the middle
