Re: Hannas back for GWS next week
Yep, good point kossifan, 10 games out of 38 has him playing in 26% of games since arriving at the club as opposed to 25% of the games as Gershwin proposed. That extra % makes all the differencekosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 13 Sep 2020 9:24pmA possible 40 games? Did they expect him to play during the bye rounds?

If he can come in and help us win a final then it goes some way to earning his money.
The way some of our fans act they'd have been whinging about Stewart Dew's injuries in 2008 for the Hawks.

Re: Hannas back for GWS next week
Play Hannebery in place of one of our non-productive small forwards. Dunstan might also be a better option than one of our other non-productive small forwards.
Both like a goal and could be handy. Their lack of football ought to keep then out of the middle for now.
Speaking of the middle, I hope Hunter Clark gets a chance to improve on his second-half cameo last week. Hopefully he is no longer pigeon-holed as a half back flank.
Webster or Savage are capable flankers that could release Clark to play midfield. Robertson or Carlisle could come in to shore up the backline for height.
It is valid to say Hannebery/Dunstan/Roberton/Savage don’t have enough football behind them this season. On the other hand, they are fresh and haven’t been involved in a team that’s lost four of its past five ... or whatever the damming stat is

I say we play Hanners against GWS if he's passed fit......good chance we play the filth in the elimination final should we get past GWS and he'll come in very handy as they've got a strong midfield.

Re: Hannas back for GWS next week
Bring Hanners, Webster and Carlisle in this week, drop Ross, Lonie and Kent
Clark into the middle, Webster HBF, Hanners forward playing the Gresham role and Carlisle to play on one of their 3 talls.
We need to get a run into these 3 experienced blokes before week 1 of the finals

If Hanners can come back, that means Roughy is back.
That... is what we should be happy with.

If the reports from the scratch are right, might be Bytel for Jones for inside grunt. Big game, no punts. Ratts wants to play finals.

Re: Hannas back for GWS next week
We need speed, we need to break the lines, we need to be aggressive and attacking.
Hanners and Bytel (even tho I link him a lot) aren't that.
Hopefully we take some chances Friday and go for it, tho I'm afraid it might be more of the same old conservative stuff from the last half of the year

Re: Hannas back for GWS next week
Dan Hannebery represents oodles of experience and on-field leadership which has been sadly lacking in all of the close games the team has lost, so if he is fit to play then I would definitely bring him in on Friday night, on the bench to start with and in whatever mid-field, wing, half-forward roles that need filling.
Even half a game out of him will make a massive difference, and will set him up for more game time in the finals.
We need to be mindful that against GWS and whoever they play in the Elimination Final St Kilda needs to play as many experienced campaigners as they can, which is why I believe Jake Carlisle will also come back in.
It was lack of leadership and experienced players that cost St Kilda the game against the Eagles - as good as Nick Coffield has become, he was a minnow against the big bodied Jack Darling, who swatted him like a fly several times in marking contests.

I would play him HF and FP. He knows how to kick a goal. It's do or die. Why wait for next year to play him and if we do get through then he will be better prepared for the first final. If he gets injured so be it.
Surely we would rather Hannas in the forward half over Kent, Lonie and Hind at the moment.

Maybe in a few bursts at centre clearances for maybe five mins a quarter. The rest of the game he is on a F50 flank. He doesn't have the fitness for us to rely on him in the guts for the whole game. No way. He will break down again and it will cost us.
He is a smart player. Put him inside the 50 and let him go to work.
Hannas in for Kent.
Dunstan a straight swap for Jones. Bytel for Hind off the bench.
Lonie plays.
Win the f****** game.

Re: Hannas back for GWS next week
I am reading a lot of people are desperate for him to get on the paddock just to get an effective disposal just so his contract can be justified
Regardless of fitness, yep I agree burn him this round and when he breaks down next - well they shoot horses dont they ?
Or at the very least put him out to pasture

Let’s be honest I’d play him but if he breaks down again....it’s serious conversation time and cut losses time..

Re: Hannas back for GWS next week
Its not good, I think, that his fitness is still uncertain and a concern for selectors - physical and aerobic - and yet it seems there is an imperative to play him. What about first principles: don't play an unfit player whatever his name and don't bulls*** to supporters with coy crap. If he is fit play him, if not leave him. Not sure about you but I find this "clever" talking around his selection prospects a sign we are not confident and are trying mind games, however GWS couldn't care less if Dan plays or not and probably hope he does so one of their guns can run off him or we will be a player down by half time. It just shows we have not developed second tier mids, for whatever reasons and the damage losing Gresh, Jones and Dunstan has caused. I just hope DH is properly fit and match ready.

Star Saint back in Shed
“Surprise comeback star Hannebery kept quiet, didn’t appear after he went off early in third. Expected to return if results fall Saints way. Club officials happy with return. Minor tweak in calf, just being cautious, said Saints physio Dr. Nevabe Wong.
How about Long at forward? Savage back. Roberton for Gears...is he good enough? Perhaps, sadly not.
If people wanna roll dice...Parker straight to midfield. 15 minute quarters remember.
