Ratts needs to be telling our boys our 'knockout finals' start on Thursday night. Knock off both WCE & GWS and take winning positive form into the finals. It will be a real measuring stick for the side, a shame we wont have Gresham & Hannebrey up and running would make us more confident.

That’s the take-away.Darth Vader wrote: ↑Tue 08 Sep 2020 10:42am So essentially if the favourites in all these games win, we miss out. If we win one, then none of the other results matter. I think.
Darling’s (East Coast Eagles- who are a crap team....pls stay like that) sh##y sprayed shot to the right, five minutes before the siren gave the doggies the win....and thus...

It is but it is doobale and also Dees do not have to make it if we have two bad losses.
For example if in our next two games we lose at 60 to 30 our % becomes 106.4%
Dees are 106.1% now. So if we lose as above they only need two moderate wins, or one good win (say over the Dons) to go above 106.4

Exactly, and to be honest of we are to have any impact in the finals we need to win at least one of them.
We are quite likely to be playing one of them in week 1 of the finals should we make it.
WCE also are now missing 3 of their main mids as Redden is now also out Hutchings the ex-Saint and one of their back up mids is also out.

If the favorites win, and we lose, we’re a-gone-a.
But if there are upsets, and we lose both, (by not a lot) ...we make it....and what a huge tick for Ratts and team if we do.
I just don’t want a repeat of 2017, for Ratts, the team, everyone...

If we win we definitely make it.
If we lose both games it there is only remote scenario that I detailed earlier that we would still play finals.

As per earlier in the thread.
saintsRrising wrote: ↑Tue 08 Sep 2020 1:27amThat would be extremely unlikely. If we lose both we are on 36 points.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Mon 07 Sep 2020 10:59pm Sorry..I am not over this.
Ross Lyon said we are in on SEN this morning.
I thought we were out last night.
Are you saying that if we can lose both games and still likely make it?
GWS will beat Crows and if we lose they are on 40 to 44 (ie beat Dees too).points
Dogs are quite likely to beat Hawks and Freo = 40 points.
Pies less likely to beat PA, but very likely to beat Suns = 38 points
= St Kilda have the least points and miss out.
Also if Dees win both games and we lose both games the Dees % could go above us and they go above us on the ladder
Now Dogs could lose to Freo, but Dogs have been very good of late.
Pies could lose to Suns, as Pies have up and down of late, but you would think that they would win.

For Saints to lose both games and make it you need all of:
- Pies to lose both games.
Dogs to lose one game
Saints % to stay above the Dees (and if we have two heavy losses and the Dees win both that can happen).

I do wish the pies lose both.....just so Eddie -Cox Plate - McQuire can sulk a bit and eat some humble pie.

Ideal outcome for us would be for the Pies to drop out.

Saints will overtake Eagles on the ladder after we beat them Thursday.

If we can convert in front of goals and get back the fwd50 efficiency we had early in the year we win this game against the Eagles.
They have a 3rd string midfield at the moment with the outs they have

Unless we get some big ins, find some cohesion we haven’t shown, it is gonna be tough. The Eagles are stinging. Rain perhaps.johnearljames wrote: ↑Tue 08 Sep 2020 3:40pm Saints will overtake Eagles on the ladder after we beat them Thursday.
The one positive and exciting thing against Hawthorn was Longs form.
Plus that we could change tempo and control the ball. Big plus.
Then the rest was so so. Marshall’s marks tempered by Marshall’s misses, Ross’s efforts vs our midfield mediocrity,

The round 18 schedule actually works well in our favour. Means GWS will have two days less rest heading into the game (6 vs 8). And 6 days rest vs 8 matters.

Re: So, it's the Saints, the Magpies, the Giants or the Bulldogs
When you start to run the options there are ways we can make the eight winning no more games, relies on a few upsets but it is possible. It relies on at least three teams in the running for positions 6 -11 ( Coll, GWS, Mel, WB and Carl). Wining no more than 9 games or winning nine games with a % lower than us.
By the same token There are ways we can win one more game and not make the eight, would take three teams ( Coll, GWS and WB) either winning more than ten games or winning ten games with a higher percentage than us.

Incorrect. You don't need all of.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Tue 08 Sep 2020 1:51pm For Saints to lose both games and make it you need all of:

Assuming we lose both then you only need 1 of the 3....
Pies to lose both games.
OR
Dogs to lose both games.
OR
Giants to lose 2 out of 3.
Either one will do.....
What could stuff up all this is Dees winning both and beating our percentage.

I think we should be worried about Carlton. Only 3 games and 18% behind us with 3 to play.

Re: So, it's the Saints, the Magpies, the Giants or the Bulldogs
aha...
maybe taking the puss in kiwispeak, I suppose...
Of course, Carlton can't make it according to the statistics division on saintsational...
But food for thought...39 points down...seven goals to nil, rain, and they still find a way to win.
Impressive!
And that player of theirs who was once a rebounding half back with energetic bombs, now forward and kicked their first or second goal...could that be our 2021 Shane Savage?
It was a good win by the Blues. One they will cherish, for sure, especially with their combacks but close losses.
We should notice.
