Re: Roughy backs King and Saints forward line
Please don't incite the intellectual nuff nuffs by posting content that might start another goddamn thread about how King drops marks. Anyone with a brain knows that King is doing as good as job as can possibly be expected for a 20yo KF after 14 games with the best defender on him each week. Don't listen to Roughhead - he knows nothing about being a young key forward learning the ropes.

Re: Roughy backs King and Saints forward line
Of coarse he's learning the ropes, no need to repeat the blatantly obvious. But he's also costing us games while that process is in progress. If you can't stomach the honesty of the situation then best you find another hobby for 2 or 3 years while he attempts to establish his credentials.Saintmatt wrote: βTue 01 Sep 2020 5:15pm Please don't incite the intellectual nuff nuffs by posting content that might start another goddamn thread about how King drops marks. If only he had 150 more games under his belt and $600k more in his back pocket, then itβd be fine to ignore his mistakes!

People forget that before this season, Max had only played about 5-6 games in two years.
First year of seniors, top 10 in contested marks for the league and people are complaining that heβs dropping too many.

Move the ball quick, put the ball out in front of him in space and watch him dominate. The huge pack marks (which they keep expecting him to take atm) will come in time, and watch out when they do!

Re: Roughy backs King and Saints forward line
Interesting listening to Bob Murphy talking about the prospect of Joe Daniher returning.
He said the first thing to go and last thing to return when you have a break is reading the flight of the ball.
King is already doing a good job with that and it will improve.
He will hold those marks soon and we will have an elite forward.
Can be a bit frustrating at the moment but still enjoying watching him develop

Re: Roughy backs King and Saints forward line
The criticism he has attracted this past few weeks has nothing to do with where he's come from or what his potential appears to be. It's about his performances in the past few weeks.The_President wrote: βTue 01 Sep 2020 6:47pmSaintmatt wrote: βTue 01 Sep 2020 5:15pm Please don't incite the intellectual nuff nuffs by posting content that might start another goddamn thread about how King drops marks. Re: Roughy backs King and Saints forward line
Thanks for posting. Most telling but of that article to me is : β Whether it be a different ground or the defence of Melbourne who have been in great form, itβs just one of those things at the moment when youβre still trying to gel together when youβve really only been a forward line for 14 games now.β
Good reminder that in spite of wanting us to be a genuine contender immediately and aside from the individual rawness and youth of many of them, the guys are still in the process of gelling as a team.

We should put him on the market now, whilst he still has currency. We may be able to get a couple of good draft picks out of the deal. We can't afford to play young Key Position players that can't kick 6-7 goals in a game, right from the start - I mean Lockett did it!

Spot on Harves, I remember when they frustratingly persevered with a young struggling key forward who was a terrible kick for goal but had a huge pair of mits on him.Harves Man wrote: βWed 02 Sep 2020 5:26am We should put him on the market now, whilst he still has currency. I think King has been fantastic to date, he got smashed by the leagues in form defender last week and that will do him a lot of good in the ling run.

Re: Roughy backs King and Saints forward line
He has been easily beaten the last two weeks, and it's just a matter of a young first-year player who has a way to go yet, but will get there. The focus should always be to win games, and really if we had the VFL, then I think Max would be going back there to work on some aspects of his game. We need to get that forward line working, as to a man they are off the boil.Joffa Burns wrote: βWed 02 Sep 2020 6:57amSpot on Harves, I remember when they frustratingly persevered with a young struggling key forward who was a terrible kick for goal but had a huge pair of mits on him.Harves Man wrote: βWed 02 Sep 2020 5:26am We should put him on the market now, whilst he still has currency. Re: Roughy backs King and Saints forward line
Clearly I think Kingy needs to be dropped but thinking about who our next opponent is, maybe this could be an excellent opportunity to get some touch and feast on the Hawks backline. Clarko is making it clear he's after a high draft pick so this will be a great opportunity to get some marking and kicking practice.spert wrote: βWed 02 Sep 2020 7:51amHe has been easily beaten the last two weeks, and it's just a matter of a young first-year player who has a way to go yet, but will get there. No idea why he was omitted, but I think Carslile would have been handy last week.spert wrote: βWed 02 Sep 2020 7:51amHe has been easily beaten the last two weeks, and it's just a matter of a young first-year player who has a way to go yet, but will get there. With May absolutely dominating we could have tried Howard or Carslile forward as another option or to at least nullify Mays intercept marking, but without him couldn't move Howard forward. We looked so much better when Marshall was opposed to May and was matching him for strength.
Ryder offers little up forward and is almost better on the bench when not rucking.
Carslile can be proficient as a pinch hitting forward and may have been handy there in the last 1/4.

Re: Roughy backs King and Saints forward line
With Carlsile in the side, Battle and Lonie could fix up the forward line.
King and Hind should be the guys to go out this week. It's the perfect week to give Kingy a rest or as I said elsewhere, does King stay in and see if he can feast on the rotting carcass that is Hawthorn. Although what would it do for his confidence if he plays and puts in a shocker. Maybe just rest him as we will give the Hawks a lesson either way.

Re: Roughy backs King and Saints forward line
His confidence may be low but we don't know that, his lack of influence is just as likely to be because of the wayward balls coming in - and if he is lacking confidence, Isn't it just as likely that if he plays he can build his confidence up before the last few games? Roughy reckons he's still on track. Changing the forward structure requires the offensive players to re-adapt on the hop, at the most crucial time of the year.Secret Kiel wrote: βWed 02 Sep 2020 10:36am With Carlsile in the side, Battle and Lonie could fix up the forward line.

Re: Roughy backs King and Saints forward line
Our key forward match-ups were wrong vs Melbourne.
Leaving King on May allowed May to get midfield numbers.
It was poor coaching.
Marshall late in the game (when he out-bodied May and took that strong mark) showed that a stronger body was needed (vs May) - but the move came too late.

This wayward balls coming in is a myth and a legacy gripe. The Peanut wrote: βWed 02 Sep 2020 11:07amHis confidence may be low but we don't know that, his lack of influence is just as likely to be because of the wayward balls coming in - and if he is lacking confidence, Isn't it just as likely that if he plays he can build his confidence up before the last few games? When the key tall forward gets clear enough to get a slow motion look at the ball and get first hands to the ball or for the ball to hit him on the chest but fails to take the mark then that is not a wayward ball. Even Ratts lamented our +16 i50s but missed the opportunity to capitalise.
Totally agree about the dilema to play him this week and what it could do for his confidence.
And totally agree the structure should be maintained but with a bare cupboard it's a bind, Marsh is the closest to the mark and has played a few games this year so you could say he's as match conditioned and AFL ready as anyone else from the Asterisk stable.

5 goals this season from 10 games. That's that same number of goals as Goldstein (4 more games); 4 more goals than Gawn (10 games); and 3 more than Grundy (14 games)

Like the team, that game was his peak , was that his milestone game, hopefully our leadership has improved enough that the players realise they have to play to that standard every week as we've been on a downward trajectory since.Saintmatt wrote: βWed 02 Sep 2020 12:20pmReally? A crunch game against the Hawks. We have to fill our boots as a close win will drag us down to 12th to 8th best, a loss could take us back to 2014.

Roughy should ring Clarko:
"Hi Angry Dwarf, it's Roughy- you want draft picks, we want Winx to regain confidence- put your worst defender on him, let him go one-on-one.
It's a win-win, whaddya say?'
