I’m amazed at how many said it was clearly a goal. You must have had access to footage I didn’t see. The best view was from 50m behind the goal. I’ve got no idea if it was a goal and either did the guy in the booth.

The AFL is not incompetent; it is corrupt. The sooner they inject some integrity into it the better. The individual that I am most disappointed in is the Chairman Richard Goyder. He should know, and be doing, better.

When you are hot you are hot, when you are not....miss sitters and inevitably waste comes back to haunt. Putting your team at the mercy of an unknown person in a remote video room is so silly for a professional sports team that desperately needs finals money ("control what you can control" don't you know..blah, blah). The whole review system is farcical of course - do we know who the reviewer was and the specifics of the vision detail provided. It could have been Liam Jarrah. It wasn't a Saints supporter.

He correctly identified the ball had been touched.
The issue was that the incompetent AFL didn't give him a side on camera for him to see where the touch took place.
So there was no alternative but to go with "umpires call" which as we know is not always right.
PS I don't think the AFL's OH&S policies would permit employing a machete wielder.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Re: Goal review cheating a new AFL low
Even if it was given as a point the chances are we would have turned it over from the kick out from FB and conceded a goal that way
There is nothing to say we would have won just because that decision gets changed

Clearly a goal, stop trolling.
There should have been a goal line camera, that’s the mistake, but all it would have shown was it was a clear goal, as the umpire 1 metre away called it.
And you wonder why everyone thinks you’re clueless when it comes to umpiring
As you are clueless I will explain it to you.
Umpire called a goal on the proviso that the wasn’t touched.
The umpire was a meter away so he was aware of when the ball crossed the line.
Howard clearly touched it as the replay showed.
Umpire should have been advised he touched and a point called.
Umpire in fact should have signalled point to begin with.
Clear mistake and now again after StKilda has been f***ed over a change will NOW be made.
The umpire called it a GOAL and wanted to double check that it wasn't touched BEFORE it crossed the line, WHICH HE SAID IT WASN'T. It was clearly touched AFTER it crossed the line.
You are a joke, and why is this trolling allowed to continue week after week after week?
Also, where did the AFL say the goal was a mistake? Link?? More trolling by you I'm guessing...

Gee, some of this makes for hard reading.
How do people still not grasp the simple concept of the review system?? It's the same as cricket.
Umpires call stands unless it there is definitive evidence to overturn the decision. It was obviously close. He actually did his job exactly as he should have. The tech wasn't available. There are easier ways to cheat than relying on a fingernail on the goal line

The correct call was to call it a behind then if the review could see it wasn't touched then over rule.
Imagine in test cricket a umpire sending a caught behind upstairs to see if the ball carried and them not checking to see if he actually hit it. This is exactly what they have done here. Umpire wasn't sure if it was touched not where it was touched.
Also you notice that it isn't another club on the wrong end of a controversial call. As Eddie said this morning the AFL owe StKilda an apolagie.

Wrong. Umpire should have signaled a behind then he could have been over ruled if the ball wasn't touched.portosaint wrote: ↑Mon 31 Aug 2020 11:47am Gee, some of this makes for hard reading.

"I believe it's a goal".... The reviewer now has to actually have evidence to overturn that call.
Right decision or not, who knows. That's the rule

"The AFL has acted swiftly after calls for the score review system to be fixed after insufficient vision meant Christian Petracca’s match-winning goal was unable to be properly judged in Melbourne’s narrow win over St Kilda.
AFL: An incredible goal from Christian Petracca was soon overshadowed by a controversial and crucial decision by the ARC.
The AFL will install goal-line cameras at all venues for the remainder of the season after Melbourne’s Christian Petracca was controversially awarded a match-winning goal in Saturday night’s three-point win over St Kilda.
With no goal-line camera at TIO Traeger Park, the AFL’s ARC operators were unable to determine if the desperate lunge of St Kilda defender Dougal Howard allowed him to touch the ball before, on or after it crossed the line.
It prompted calls from Demons coach Simon Goodwin and Richmond great Matthew Richardson for the AFL to ensure every venue hosting matches has appropriate score review technology, while Saints coach Brett Ratten put it back on the league to decide whether the league wanted to invest money in the system.
While the AFL backed the decision of the ARC to defer to the umpire’s call — which was a goal — the league will install cameras at all venues hosting matches for the remainder of the season.
“The AFL advises all venues hosting AFL matches for the rest of the 2020 Toyota AFL Premiership Season (including finals) will have goal-line cameras installed, ensuring the best available vision and consistent technology is in place for each of the remaining games,” the league said in a statement.
.
Despite the crucial decision going Melbourne’s way, Goodwin was vocal post-game, declaring goal-line cameras should be installed at every venue that hosts AFL games.
Petracca was initially stiff not to have been paid the mark, using his brutal strength to snare the ball with Callum Wilkie hanging off him and two other Saints in the vicinity.
Petracca slammed the ball onto his boot while being tackled and, after the Sherrin took a lucky turn and dribbled towards the goal, St Kilda’s Dougal Howard, after a desperate lunge, was adamant he touched it before it crossed the line."
Vision inconclusive but our very own chuck can say that the ball was clearly over the line before it was touched. f****** unbelievable.

We all know it was touched. The issue is was it across the goal line? The footage wasn't available. AFL error, not umpire error. Wrong or right, the correct process was followed. Re: Goal review cheating a new AFL low
If you watch the vision Howard was only jogging after it initially and only accelerated when it took the off break towards the goals. If he had gone hard straight away he would have reached it easily.

What is it with the AFL? Do they always wait until something happens in a St Kilda game until they take action?
First a goal that wasn’t a goal in the 2009 GF, and video reviews were promptly introduced.
Then came the 2010 GF with a draw, but rather than extra time, we had a replay the following week. This, of course was immediately scrapped for future GF draws.
And now, you guessed it, the AFL proudly announces that goal reviews much be available at all grounds!
I’m waiting with bated breath for the next incident at a Saints game to introduce additional measures.

Re: Goal review cheating a new AFL low
You are delusional, he signals what he thinks it is, a goal in this case, and then the video review has to overrule him.CURLY wrote: ↑Mon 31 Aug 2020 11:51amWrong. Umpire should have signaled a behind then he could have been over ruled if the ball wasn't touched.portosaint wrote: ↑Mon 31 Aug 2020 11:47am Gee, some of this makes for hard reading.
Why on Earth would he signal a point if he thinks it's a goal?!? You have lost the plot with you bias.

I couldn't tell, chuck but you obviously have better vision than all of us. Guess we should start calling you superman.The_Dud wrote: ↑Mon 31 Aug 2020 1:46pmThe umpire a metre away said it wasn't touched before it crossed the line, and I think he has a much better view then geriatrics sitting in their recliners with their bifocals on!saynta wrote: ↑Mon 31 Aug 2020 12:03pm https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/ ... da7214cc3b

Re: Goal review cheating a new AFL low
I'm backing the umpire 1 metre away to have the best idea, anyone claiming they or someone else knows better are just plain ignorant. And the bad camera angles didn't show anything that made it look like it was the wrong call.saynta wrote: ↑Mon 31 Aug 2020 1:51pmI couldn't tell, chuck but you obviously have better vision than all of us.
