All from a supposed superstar in his prime that you’re telling me is going to go past J Kelly who actually IS a mid?
Anyhoo....gotta give to get
Robbing Peter to pay Paul all for 3 more disposals a game and less goals ...... and likely one less 1st rounder cause as you say Kelly is way superior than Billings

GWS will ask for the absolute world for a contracted Kelly ...... not sure why you don't get this
How we robbing Peter???
Ones a midfielder who sits 14 for avg disposals in the comp while our wing/HF sits 48th???
One gets clearances from stoppages CAUSE HES A GUN MID the other doesn’t get near it??
Who said getting Kelly was easy but if the ask is J Billings then yes please....where do I sign???
But according to you Billings is going to turn out a better player than Kelly .....oh right lol

Jacks a nice fella but absolutely replaceable
Do you know what a mid is? I heard today Jacks a “modern mid” he just doesn’t do centre clearance or stoppage clearances but he’s still a mid!!! Lol

You compare average disposals yet one averages 3 more per game than the other - that's less than one disposal per quarter

You also completely ignore the fact that one has kicked nearly twice as many goals as the other

Again Billings sits top 25 in overall possessions in the league and out that top 25 sits equal 4th on goals - thats pretty hard to replace

I also never said Billings was the better player - both midfielders but they play different roles and bring different attributes

Lastly GWS would hold the bargaining power - Billings and a top 10 draft pick minimum - and by the look of it we won't have a top 10 draft pick to give anyway

You said Billings will end up in front of Kelly??
The guy sits in a wing/HF of course he’s going to kick more goals - he can’t win a ball in a contest to save his life and when we play top 4 sides (see Cats) this is where we get spanked
I don’t care if Billings kicks 10 against the Hawks - I’m after players who when things get hot can stand up
Jack Billings looks great when the side does (unlike J Steele who stands up against the tide)
Today when things were tough Jack Billings went awol and nit the first time either
Keep playing with stats - the guy is absolutely replaceable and if we are to attract a quality ball winning mid (which many suggest we desperately need) we need to offer up something decent
Jack will do nicely for mine followed by Jake

Petracca 3.8 - Menegola 2.3

Neale 5.6 - but he is the hottest Brownlow favourite in years

Bont plays at the coalface Billings doesn't - they play different roles

Bont averages 1 more disposal than JB per game - Bont goes at 65% efficiency - JB 70%

The Bont is a freak and no1 player at the Dogs

Yes stats are-

Billings had 25 possessions v Richmond & 22 against Port - above his average - we won both games

He had 17 & 1 goal against the Cats on a down day for the whole team

Lions 15 and should have had 2 goals were it not for Dim Tim stopping him on the goal line

He had a filthy game vs the Pies as did the whole team

All probably while trying to shake a hard tag

Billings ain't the problem and trading him away won't fix it

C'mon Teflon...say it!! Billings is soft. He's a receiver

Now that we have Hill, do we really need 2 mids that can't win their own footy?

King is Hipwood 3 years ago except in 3 years he can kick straight.

I thought I was looking at the future when looking at Hipwood. Time Travel is fun.

I think we should rest King and Billings in the next couple of weeks. Both of them having a week's rest will make a mountain of difference.

Perhaps play both against Melbourne and Hawthorn, two sides we should beat, and then rest them against the Eagles.

There’s no point testing players now... we have a week off after next

Should have already been done.

Geelong was the time to do it

Billings game was really poor, the replay is not flattering, good on him for increasing his output in the 3rd but when you lose a close one like that it's the 3 quarters that he was unavailable for that costs 4 points.

King is a massive work in progress and as I've said before if we had a feeder comp he would be given a rest from senior footy.

The Asterisk cup is taking it's toll, players look like they are rusty robots in many of the set plays. A lot of sore bodies. Let's hope our best 22 survive the season without an injury deficit to contend with over summer.

It was a weird game as other than Steele and Jones for us and maybe McCluggage and Berry no one really played four quarters of good mid field football.

Yeah the "festival of footy", (that bit of AFL PR genius still cracks me up), looks like it's taking it's toll. It's usully about this time of year the top 4 teams, or teams that are secure in their ladder postion start a training load in prep for finals but this year the prep will be on a bananna lounge around the resort swimming pool and at most a game for those that can still move 3 days after a game, a game of golf.

I guess not many of us have had those days where nothing sticks no matter how you try. Notice how the smooth flight of a perfectly spinning ball on TV can seem like a dipping wrong un from Warney wobbling on its knuckle breaking axis when you are trying to catch it in person under pressure. Billings and King are very good. Their effort was there. King was on the AA full back and delivery was problematic. Billings fighting through his first 3 quarters and staring in the last was a tribute to his resolve and commitment. Lions are a top side and to expect players to be in the votes every week or "off with their heads" may be too much like irrational me carrying on in front of the TV yesterday. Made me feel a bit better but really it was silly.

Billings does get a lot of the ball, and this is a plus but his high possession count is often inflated by receiving return handballs. He does have a good looking style on his left boot and he can kick distance, but he too often misses targets. He is at his best when he is after the contested ball, and his final quarter goal was sensational. More often than not though, he is an outside receiver. He is not often given a tag, which likely reflects how other coaches rate him. I doubt other teams would pay near the 800k that we reportedly do.

Bont 8 goals

Replace away
All of those players can win a clearance....what’s Jack missing ???
Based on your numbers he’s better than the Bont!!!
Should be a straight swap for Kelly then cause Jacks kicked more goals....lol
Bont averages 5 clearances a game - Billings 2 (without playing at the coalface) - so less than 1 more per quarter

Petracca 3.8 - Menegola 2.3

Neale 5.6 - but he is the hottest Brownlow favourite in years
I thought you didn’t like averages?????
Bonts had 65 clearances
Jack 27

But again he’s a modern mid...
Show me a high stat winner and I will show you the handball receives and returns. They all do it. Billings by the way gets the defensive wingman more often than not.

Billings has had a very consistent year, he is not the problem, would be top 5 in the b&f this year.

Managed to turn his game around yesterday and was nearly the difference in the last quarter. Maybe the coach needed to pull the trigger earlier, who knows.

Agreed.

Good player and certainly fits the build for what we need more of. He and Hill and are no doubt the 2 of the main focal points for opposition coaches to target.

Both are very damaging when they are able to accumulate possessions.

Obviously JB was beaten for 3/4 yesterday but as Dud says, has been good this year. Certainly not the problem.
