Jones had been a fringe player at the Blues, their version of Tom Lee, I suppose.

Well, Liam Jones got a BOG on Bruce, getting 17 possessions and 10 marks, I think.
Maybe a week or two later, Jones got his first senior game in ages.

So Bruce ran a guy into form, a solid tryer with a little bit of skill, making the defender look much better
That game was in a complete bog at Coburg oval. Rainy and slippery. And Bruce made Liam Jones into a very good CHB that day. Completely re-invigorated Jones' career after being a spasmodic forward (largely hopeless at it).

Jones should be sending Josh a Xmas card for life - he got a new contract off the back of that game and then a reasonable 2nd half of the season in the 1s as a key backman (where he played really well).
This post just makes me cringe.

I'm always perplexed by the venom and vitriol that is spewed by footy fans towards players in the manner and context you display. Serious question, why?

Coaching test for Bevo. What to do with Josh. I imagine he will be dropped while his attributes are reassessed. Love to see A. Bain's notes to support Josh's recruitment. Richo might be thinking if only I had Max instead of Josh.

Max King leading Bruce in goal kicking.

14 v 11.

A 20 year old kid on the verge of being a superstar v a late 20's something C grade forward. The club made the right choices.

Same with Stevens, Acres, Newnes. They were taking us nowhere.

And Weller.

Players are brought in from other clubs and the draft,
we can only have 22 run out on the day, some miss the cut and eventually are surpassed by newbies.

It's the way forward.
Thanks Jack S, Bl8cres, Newnes, Mav, luv what you brought, but we need to say bye

It’s was certainly the boldest trade period we’ve had in a while and the early indicators are that we’ve got it right on all fronts... which is highly impressive if that’s the way it works out.
Bruce, Acres and Steven were certainly not players that I wanted to see go and I wasn’t particularly happy with the deals we got (at least for the latter 2) but none have excelled as yet and our ins have all been winners

I really liked Phil Stevens. Brother-in-law of Rex Hunt and a real trier. Part of Saints during a Geelong Reserves phase.

If memory serves, (reliable as VicRail in 1978) ,
wasn’t Stevens one of those extremely rare types that reaches a point with the club, where both parties tacitly agree to be a permanent mature-aged reserves player? It’s a pretty rare situation, I think Mick Dwyer May have ended up there too.

Good to say now that picks 32 and 51 was an absolute bargain for Bruce!

I was sad, it looks like Ratts saw he was a problem.

It's a shame he hasn't been able to find some form after the move to the Doggies.

He always tried to heart out for us, but unfortunately apart from one good season, he just isn't up to the same quality as many of his peers.

I was a bit worried about throwing Maxy to the wolves without Bruce but I just didn’t know how great Maxy is. I hope for Bruce’s sake he signed a long deal.

Imagine how players like Bont, little Daniels, McCrea and Liberatore feel. Tried hard Josh, thanks for the effort. Bevo will not accept his current output no matter how sincere Josh pretends to be. He doesn't even hurt the opposition accidentally. Either he changes his impact on games or he plays for Werribee (currently 0 degrees and wet) in 2021.

0 touches and nearly half time in Melb v Bulldogs game.

Doesn't even look like getting the ball.

Melbourne and Bulldogs not much chop either. Nothing special.
