Re: Paddy McCartin
Re-recruiting Paddy seems like the right thing to do but I have low expectations Paddy will ever play another senior game.
We should only pay him basic salary.

Bring him back to replace Max King at FF.

We recruited him, gave him a fair salary and criticise the previous coaching regime for whatever you want (I certainly do) but one cannot suggest that they didn’t give him both ample support and opportunity.
If you/we have low expectations of him making it, why would you re-recruit him? It sucks that injury ruined his career (with us at least)... but it happens.

I think it is obvious, he's not trying to kid anyone. The same with the one who wants Paddy to replace Max at full forward. It is called something other than "kidding" and I'm surprised it's being tolerated.SaintPav wrote: ↑Wed 19 Aug 2020 7:22pmCome off it SK.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Wed 19 Aug 2020 2:53pmI have heard he's definitely coming back onto the list.

Waste of a pick. I feel for the guy but its too big a risk for limited reward. I wish him well and if he gets picked up elsewhere i will not hold it against him or the other team but he burnt us once, we wold be silly to go twice

I don’t know why people think we owe him something? And aren’t we paying him something this year even though he’s not on the list?

Hey if he's good to go there is absolutely no reason why 18 clubs wouldn't jump at bringing him on for minimum wage as a pure speculative swing.SaintPav wrote: ↑Wed 19 Aug 2020 7:22pmCome off it SK.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Wed 19 Aug 2020 2:53pmI have heard he's definitely coming back onto the list.

Most astute observers will freely acknowledge Paddy was a jet before his injury issues so why wouldn't you gamble on him for the right price.
Hey it's unthinkable right now but Max King could be in the same situation if all of a sudden he has multiple knee failures, Patton anyone. Talent is Talent and Paddy has it in natural spades so as I say, if he's over his injuries then grab him quickly.
And the club really is obligjed to bring him back onto the list.

Re: Paddy McCartin
Paddy McCartin has, with St Kilda, been the gift that keeps giving. Giving to the other teams that is. Four years of giving by St Kilda.
Want to win a flag? Like a romantic story? Why Paddy?
Why not recruit me?
I’m 56 years old. Skinny with a slight beer pot. Balding. Crows feet, and I’m ready to leave Japan if the price is right. I promise I’ll give it my best shot and I really need a second chance.
If it is so that Paddy has been guaranteed a spot, then congratulations again Saints. We win the social responsibility award again!
Sure there’s a chance he becomes Hawkins, but nothing we’ve seen so far indicates it.
The only reason would be if, like for Hannebury, we are stuck in a spot and have to do it. No choice. And he’s prepared for Sandy.
If he comes in and wins a Brownlow we will have so many members we can buy the junction oval. I’ll make a statue of him. Meanwhile hope our priority Is to win a flag ASAP.
I am available.

Re: Paddy McCartin
I assume Paddy would get all the right advice before he decides to nominate for the draft or whatever. If he gets the all clear medically and from family, and would like to re-enter the Saints list, then thank you very much, of course we should go for him.

Re: Paddy McCartin
I’d love to see Paddy given a chance. Paddy has great skills and if the doctors say he’s good to go, he’s worth a punt as a late pick or a delisted free agent on low coin.
People can’t see him fitting in with Max, Membrey, Marshall. He doesn’t have to. He can be backup and work his way into the team if good enough or if we’re hit by injuries.

Re: Paddy McCartin
In light of everything that has occurred to Paddy as a junior and with his most recent personal medical history I have one very important question. I’m pretty sure we all know the answer, but I’ll ask it anyway and add to my query with some background regarding the athlete and his ability to play the modern game.
https://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-10-27/ ... his-tracks
IS HE STILL A DIABETIC?
I was flabbergasted after reading an old report on afl.com ..above. It is amazing when you look back at the time that Paddy was injured for half a year at TAC level and we still picked him. He was injured at the time of the draft combine so could not be tested against his peers and we still picked him as the best junior footballer in the country!
He had episodes with regard to his diabetes which impacted his recovery, his fitness, and even just his ability to be able to front up for a game. All the evidence was there but somehow our medicos and our recruiters ignored them or thought the risks were insignificant.
The idiots in charge at St Kilda thought they could beat the odds regarding his illness and all the ramifications regarding getting him fit when his career as a juniior was littered with evidence of fitness barriers plus injuries and major red flags around concussion

But if they think they can now do justice to their errors by selecting him again, with doubts, it will be appalling. Even if Paddy comes back and wins a Brownlow, based on the evidence at hand, acting to salvage something is wrong.
In fact, we should learn from his recruitment. I am sure other teams have. Luckily for them, they don't have to make an excuse.
Of course all recruitment is hit and miss. I get that. Nevertheless.
If he is no longer diabetic. If they discovered an incredible formula to reverse concussion damage. If they invented an x, y, z...that won't happen. Never again Saints. Please learn.
Edit: I add, we all deserve a second chance at life. I hate our cancel culture. I don't believe in capitol punishment. Give people a second chance. This is just footy OK...I had to say that, as I have been given one before,

Re: Paddy McCartin
My feel is this.
We let other teams have first crack, if they want him they can give him a go.
If nobody bites, we put him on the rookie list and give him all the opportunities he deserves.
Max King could be a gun FF or the best ruck/mid in the comp. If Paddy can step back in and be that target, he would be huge for the team.

I like it. Because our current Paddy will only be around for another year or two so it could be a really nice succession plan.Otiman wrote: ↑Wed 19 Aug 2020 11:29pm My feel is this.

But I also really like the bit about others having first crack and then we bring him on but I'm certain he'll get snapped up quickly if we allow it. We owe it to him to help him out whatever way we can.
