Changes v Lions
Out: Paton (concussion)
In: Carlisle (unfortunately as he has the turning circle of the Titanic and we all know what happened there).
Possible (along with the above) Out: Bytel In Roberton

Carlisle 100% back, has been very good this year.
Where does Geary play? He can’t cover Cameron. Who goes to him?

Re: Changes v Lions
Paton played on Betts, could give Cameron a run I reckon. Hope he can get up for the game.

Not sure Cameron will play. Hurt his knee last week played this week and looked off a beat.

Re: Changes v Lions
Personal opinion but I’m out on Lonie and really not that into the forward pocket position per’se.
Would rather play a resting midfielder there...
Lonie didn’t have a bad game but he just doesn’t have enough impact. For a little patch of time tonight, they moved Saad onto Lonie and directed play through him... we cottoned on and made the change but the return of 10 touches and 1.1, I just don’t think I see the value there.
And the reality is that that super form Lonie demonstrated a year or two back... he really hasn’t got back there at all this season
Don’t rate Kent all that much more as I reckon he doesn’t work as hard but he’s kicked more goals (or so it seems at least) and that’s the value in that role.

He is manic and he is erratic but like Clark and Coffield Ratts is trying to improve him. Worth persisting.bangaulegend wrote: ↑Sun 16 Aug 2020 11:39pmTakes the game on yeah makes mistakes but he's a keeper IMO

With King, Membrey, Butler, Hind and resting ruckman seem to have 5 of the forward line spots covered
The last spot seems to be between
Parker
Kent
Lonie
Or
Resting Midfield (Langlands/Philliips/Byrnes)
Kent seems the preferred choice and has looked more comfortable there this year.
Parker if he wasn't so raw has the best combination of attributes, height, pace, aggression, leap, marking.
Lonie has some tricks and can be good, but against the good sides is just too small.
If any of those midfielders can step up the spot could well be theirs. Phillips seems the likely candidate with pace and good endurance.
To me Lonie is down the order, and with Butler and Hind having taken the role for fast agile smalls.
Nee!

FYI Lonie had 6 score involvements, which lead the way for the Saintsskeptic wrote: ↑Sun 16 Aug 2020 11:44pm Personal opinion but I’m out on Lonie and really not that into the forward pocket position per’se.

Not our best player but more than played his part

Reckon we should run Long through the midfield, we need as much physical presence as possible.minneapolis wrote: ↑Mon 17 Aug 2020 10:57amHe is manic and he is erratic but like Clark and Coffield Ratts is trying to improve him. Long is not a shutdown defender, he is an attacking defender.

Re: Changes v Lions
It will be interesting to see how Ratts feels about him not gettting a kick. It didn't matter too much against a very average Bombers midfield and Zac more than covered for him but the Lions midfield is arguably as strong as the Cats midfield. We are seriously coming up short in the midfield with Hanners and Gresh out and it will take its toll the longer the season gets.

Re: Changes v Lions
Bytel’s handballing out of congestion to break open to play to the Saint’s advantage was very handy. Would rather that than having attempted kicks smothered in the same situations. Would keep him in.
Re: Changes v Lions
Surprised Hunter Clark doesn’t play on ball then bring in Savage or Roberton.
Does anyone have intel on how Roberton is going ? Must be close

Re: Changes v Lions
Well he got 7 kicks (and 11 handballs) against that better Geelong team, and 5 clearances, so it sounds like he should be right then!Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Mon 17 Aug 2020 9:05pmIt will be interesting to see how Ratts feels about him not gettting a kick. What was Diesel Williams, premiership player and Brownlowx2 medalists strength? Correct, handball!

Diesel had a handball to kick ratio of just a little better than one so he used to kick the thing a bit too.

lol
I seem to recall the last game we played against Brisbane....
Dmac didnt go so well on Cameron.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

Re: Changes v Lions
I am thinking "Sore Knee" will go to Cameron and do quite well on him. If not Paton is our only option.
I'm looking forward to Howard picking up Hipwood, will be a great test of his closing speed.
Carlisle needs to come in to take the Big 'O' when he's forward - When Oscar is rucking this may allow Carlisle to enjoy some forward time, taking the heat off King.
This leaves Coffield to take McCarthy.
Wilkie to take McStay.
Ross needs to set himself to take on and beat Zorko.
Lonie will be the unlucky one to make way for Carlisle.
Big game, can't wait to see how we respond to the first real test since the Geelong shellacking.
