The knock on Steele’s attitude
Is it really a thing?
It’s been alluded to on this forum but I’ve never heard the actual concerns laid out. Something about him being too laid back.
From where I sit, he has been the stand out player of our team this season. It’s been a pleasure to watch his development under Ratten as he has risen from a workman like midfielder into the elite bracket.
One of his worst games of the season today and he still walked away with 21 touches and a tackle.
Reckon come season’s end, it’s time for him to assume the mantle of Captain. No knock on Geary (not what this is about) but Steele is the best player on this list and is leading from the front each and every week.

Re: The knock on Steele’s attitude
I have never seen his attitude questioned, and would be staggered if it were. Has been fabulous for us for a number of seasons. Absolutely looks like a leader. Last week for example , he worked his guts out all day in a losing team, and was clearly our best in a losing team. He seemed to take the loss personally, and kept digging in- like Allan Border at his best in the mid 80s.

He's given 110% all season but he looked a bit flat today. Hopefully he can revitalize at Noosa Beach and finish the year well.

As far as who our next Captain is I'd say there are few other strong candidates.

Re: The knock on Steele’s attitude
It pains me to be so much in agreement with S*K* but it is a little strange skeptic. I doubt there's a single poster or troll that knocks his attitude. I doubt anyone would not exit the trench and follow him. He should be our skipper in 2021.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Sun 16 Aug 2020 9:33pmA really strange thread. Re: The knock on Steele’s attitude
Well he’s certainly got my vote.
When this has been brought up before, the suggestion has been that he’s not a leader. Was just seeking more info from those that posted it

Like I said, my choice as Captain. It seems as though those that have previously flagged concerns about attitude are keeping quiet now and a few others need to learn to read.

Re: The knock on Steele’s attitude
I know Jack and have an open invitation to visit him in the rooms before a game and also before the corona virus ruined any chance of that prospect for this year at least.
I am glad forumites have come to his defence after this really offensive and unwarranted slur.

Re: The knock on Steele’s attitude
You know for someone that claims not to read my posts, you sure pay me a lot of attention.
I will point out that that I actually praised his performance this year, stated he was elite and am advocating for his captaincy
The things I mentioned have been posted here and I asked about them
Please don’t infest another thread with your tired, emotional carry on

Would be the current market favourite as next captain.

Re: The knock on Steele’s attitude
I've never read anyone on here knocking Steele's attitude. To be charitable, perhaps it's just the title of the thread that's wrong and the op wants to discuss whether he should be captain.

Yeah this is it
Usually I throw in a few talking points when I start threads... helps move the conversation along and have clearly placed the focus on the wrong place in the title.
Results speak for themselves in some respects and in others, like moths to a flame the ppl just looking for trouble (not you) have been kind enough to fuel it along and sink the boots in

Re: The knock on Steele’s attitude
Could you please substantiate your position by at least posting one comment made by another poster that questioned his attitude or commitment? I certainly cannot recall one but then again I don’t read every post!skeptic wrote: ↑Sun 16 Aug 2020 8:39pm Is it really a thing?

When the prospect of changing captains has been raised before (as it often is), it has been suggested that he’s not captaincy material and that he is either too laidback or not a leader.
Not having any inside knowledge myself, I was just asking the question

So I'm confused by all your ambiguity, on one hand it reads like you are baiting and trying to start a flame war which wouldn't surprise many, and on the other hand it reads like you are trying to bait and start a flame war.skeptic wrote: ↑Mon 17 Aug 2020 8:53amYeah this is it

Re: The knock on Steele’s attitude
My only concern with Steele is that his ultra physical game style may end up curtailing his career.
Just as Armo’s battering ram style took its toll ... Hannebery is another example of this, as is Hamill.
We need another big-bodied physical type or two to take some of the brunt, and more of our players to share the load ... and maybe ask Steele to ease off a bit on the tackling, if anything, and concentrate more on just getting the ball.
