Re: Match Thread Saints v Bombers Round 12 2020
Well, we more than doubled their score. When we were at the bottom we didn't always lose by ten goals to the better teams.
Big wins can be misleading.
Agree though, uninspiring win so won't be watching the replay of this one.

Yes, but! It's not always a problem, take today as an example, when a team is handballing constantly and chipping around trying to break the zone etc, it is not always indicative of a bad performance by us. The counterpoint to that would be Geelong where we got absolutely belted by the mids.

We’ll have to play heaps better: with greater pressure and skill to beat Melbourne next week. Today we were dreadful in the second half. Luckily Essendon were worse!

More than doubled their score. One player short from midway through first quarter. Genuine big game against Brisbane next week.
That'll do donkey, that'll do.

Good to see them sing the song with a bit of vigour at least.
Jack Billings who is normally fairly unemotional looked pretty pumped.

He is an excellent captain ...................... for a bottom four team.
But for a team playing finals his errors and poor skills are not good enough.

Carlisle back next week. His contribution to the backline is crucial.

No matter how hard the saints play they will not beat Melbourne next week.
But beating Brisbane is a possibility.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Bombers Round 12 2020
I think it is relevant that on a hot day we played just about the whole game one short, with Paton off early.
Also a good sign we have improved since the North and Freo losses. After Dons kicked 3 in a row either side of half way, we slowed the game down, played some tempo footy and wrestled back control. Paddy Ryder was very important at that time.

While the second half wasn’t convincing, Essendon’s score was their lowest vs St Kilda in 105 years. I’ll take that.
