i heard it said

that Richo’s actual issue was
... he could not ‘do’ conflict

ie ... issues that needed lobbing out of the park
or their heads cut off ... were allowed to feeble along
... finally , festering their way ... into everything

carrying psychological weight , we didn’t/shouldn’t have needed to carry
... was the way i interpreted what i heard

Each player is responsible for getting the most out of themselves and the acid test for me iseach St Kilda player looking Steele in the eye at the end of the game, and feeling satisfied that they've put in their best effort - because you know Steele under AR or BR or CR will always do that for you.

I noticed that Hill only had 7 possessions last week.
He is a recruit that we needed in our team, but he needs to perform.

Am I going to blame the coach for his poor showing?

No.

It comes back to the player.

He needs to bring his Freo form - and he hasn't really done that.

To be fair to Richo in his last year the influx of talent was:

Max King (injured)
Bytel (injured)
Hannaberry (injured)

Add to that injuries to Carlisle, Robertson's heart condition, concussion to Paddy (the Great White hope at that stage).

He had absolutely no relief that he might have hoped for.
Ratten has had no injuries and 5 new players all in form.

Richo needs to be seen in context, however, he was cooked as a senior coach.

You’re the one that’s getting personal. Perhaps you shouldn’t dish it out if you don’t want to get it back.

What a bizarre and obviously mischievous thread. Richo should only be credited with extending a Head Coach role for as long as he did when that was his greatest failing.

When the OP author states the credit lies in development, which was not Richo's core function, he does not deserve credit. Then doubles down with "not a master developer but had a hand in" definitely means no credit is deserved.

thejiggingsaint wrote: Fri 14 Aug 2020 4:32pm I have absolutely nothing personal against Alan Richardson. Sadly, it was one of those appointments that promised much, (and initially showed some positive signs) but ultimately was shown to be an error (as so many such appointments have been in our past) The decision to move on and appoint Brett Ratten as Senior Coach, is showing signs of an improved vibe at the club. Perhaps we now know why, Alan was an assistant coach for so long....... a case of him being more of an "able lieutenant" rather than a "Commander"???? I wish him well, and thank him for his efforts.
Nice to hear from you jiggling, haven't noticed you for a while. Your positive attitude uplifts the tone of the forum.

Cool.

I just think Alan developed our kids pretty well overall and its a smaller part of the reason we are finals bound. Credit where credits due.

Yep, nice that Mrs Richo is thinking of us, rightfully & obviously devoted to her husband. I'm sure she looks a peach in red & blue.

That was a rumour started by a disgruntled person who was sacked by the club for very, very inappropriate behavior and perpetuated by a poster on this site who also is a very weak and questionable chatacter that was connected to the disgraced and sacked person.

i thought that ‘the murphy incident’
marked his cards

eff mark murphy , the cfc and afl house
needed to be his response
whilst backing snowy in

but he didn’t do that
‘n more than likely lost the players there ‘n then

(but that's only personal conjecture)

I think Alan Richardson can be summed up by his assessment of Billy Longer. He was a big fan and really rated him. Enough said

TBH, the one you refer to is quite obvious but ultimately harmless. There are worse types of posters that pollute this forum.

Richo coached St Kilda through some forgettable years, let’s be honest. As did the fellow before him. From a distance, it seems that Richo was a stoic and calm guy who gave it a good shot.

But I am interested in the role that these (for want of a better phrase) ‘processes, or KPIs, or metrics, and how the club determines things, systems etc.’ had in keeping him in the post for so long. Was was flawed? Or was it just inertia?

Have to agree with Skeptic, but was it Richo’s fault that Weller, Newnes, etc. were picked up? No...but the buck had to stop somewhere, right? And the whole fiasco of the big forward with concussions? Seaford. The dreadful dark ages of ‘rebuild’ ...Gee, it makes my eyes and ears bleed when that word appears in front of me now.

Bless Richo for sure. But boy, we have moved on.and I’m thankful for that.
The motivation is very clearly to troll and perhaps to try and save face for over the top gruff directed at the many vocal critics of Richo here that were clearly right if perhaps too frustrated over the last year or so.

Easily the worst Saints coach of my lifetime... far worse than Timid Tim who even in his utter failure left us a better legacy after promptly realising his wasn’t up to the task. Only took him a year and a half and then he honourably fell on his sword rather than drag it out like Richo did to the latest possible stage.
Does the name Scott Watters job your memory at all?
