It’s a difficult decision when you have some of your best 22 under an injury cloud. Do you play your most talented blokes and the ones that should be picked first every time like Gresham even if he’s 80% fit or do you go with a back up or young bloke. Obviously, it is damning if there was any long term risk or any chance of causing greater injury.DownAtTheJunction wrote: ↑Thu 13 Aug 2020 12:41pmFrom afl.com.auDownAtTheJunction wrote: ↑Wed 12 Aug 2020 6:35pm Gresham is a major loss for our team and supplied a significant amount of grunt. Alongside Steele and Jones, he has been the engine.
Gresham showed pain following the Saints' 59-point loss to Geelong on Monday night and St Kilda chief Simon Lethlean said there was a "grumble" in his back prior to that game which had settled with an anti-inflammatory.
That statement seems pretty damning. A four day break for a inside mid, showing signs of back stress and he gets some nurofen. That just doesn't read right.
Damning perhaps on face value, but what were the circumstances? Maybe Gresh did not report any issues right up until game time. Maybe he waited until after selection so that he could pocket his match payment.
Maybe part of the reason selection committee don’t ‘rest‘ some of the players is because they want to keep them ‘happy’ and on side and well compensated...instead of actually testing the depth of the list and providing money earning match payments to other blokes.
