I have a feeling I got that from the same place you're getting your numbers from, and if I recall correctly you weren't too on board with their legitimacy.

Just watched Swans v GWS. It again highlighted the AFL has a big problem with umpire incompetence, or poor decisions for whatever reasons. Need to start a professional stream, current recruitment system just not working. There will be a riot or violence in a GF or elimination final if the standard doesn't get to a reasonable level. NRL GF last year was made a joke by the final umpiring decision, we don't need that type of outcome. Umpiring is hard, but not that hard.

There is a lot of truth in that article and agree umpires should be FT to allow better training and professionalism.

They miss the point coaches play in the umpiring and how the rules are constantly changing in an effort to compensate for negative game styles & tactics that stifle the flow of the game.

Ruck infringements typify what’s wrong with the state of umpiring today.

How many times do rucks tangle up, the umpire blows their whistle, and then we all – from the spectators to the commentators to the players themselves – pause without any idea which way the free kick will go?

We’re talking tens of thousands of people who will be clueless.

How is that possible? How can only one person know?

Doesn’t that suggest there is communication issue? We don’t understand what the umpire’s seeing.

Great article and so true.

No one denies there is a issue with the umpiring and interpretation's of rules. The massive issue is that certain side seem to benefit from umpiring more than others. West Coast Collingwood get a dream rum while StKilda have copped a deplorable run of contstant s*** costing numerous games including a Grand Final.
