But as a team, it’s working. He rarely gets out marked, always gets it to ground and the smalls feast off him......
That’s what I thought was the idea. Geelong just bombed and scrubbed the ball inside the F50 half the time, and then just rag dolled the ball and muscled their way into position.

I think we have this Butler, who is the ...was the....new king of Moomba for last week, and I think the idea was, we use our crumbers to collect the spoils..obviously didn’t work.

So I have no clear ideas here, but psychologically, should we nurse home a bit, by resting him, or do we say, ‘this is footy, welcome, strap on your boots and get back out there’ .

Obviously he skinny like a rake, but he still finds position and get his hands on the ball.

However, if he is actually losing bulk thanks to the constant games, then we need to feed him dimmies and Mars bars a bit more.

I'd say rest him against Brisbane if he has another quiet game against Essendon.

Every chance he can kick 4-5 against the Dons.

They play fast & free which could give Max some decent looks without a mob of people pushing back.

But resting him - might that make him harder to brush aside? He is not showing mental weakness, remarkably. Perhaps his crappy kicking isn’t a good sign. Mind you, Hind didn’t make distance from 35m either.

I think we were shell shocked last night. Like the Germans at Normandy, just had the crap bombed out of us. I don’t know if resting makes one more willing to face the flames again. See what I am saying?

If they pay one early the defence change there tactics. The just infringe him if they can’t spoil.
it is interesting given the exact same physique that Ben doesnt get the same treatment???

Max does get his arms chopped regularly, but it would help if we kicked it to him on the lead. Simple as that!

That does not seem to be the gameplan though. They seem to want spoils for our crumbers rather than marks.

That's why Geelong beat us- the game plan is predictable, but works if we get first use of the ball. If King could hold some of his marks, then it makes it hard for the opposition- it's not all about arm chopping as he gets purchase but doesn't hold. Max is fine with a bit of room to take marks, but strong bodies can push him out a bit too easy- he doesn't have much of a clue how to use his body at this stage. He will be a good player for us but in time- be patient

Should have put more exclamation points footynut, spot on.

To watch his brother last night, they are unstoppable on the lead. No umpire could disregard arm chopping to a player on the lead.

Max, like Ben, is good on the ground and on the lead. Neither can stand their ground and hold a pack to mark the ball, like Loewe, Plugger, even Kosi.

Must continue to be played, like Hill, until our players learn how best to use him. Ben is 20 games ahead, resting Max will not help him or the club.

It is because the Suns play Ben as a genuine option, whereas the Saints are using Max as a sacrificial target most of the time.

This has worked well for us in many games. But Cat's were a wake up to it, and more and more teams are likely to be.

It also means that Max gets a lot or more physical contact from his opponents than is desirable. But this is going to happen in the pack marking scenarios that he often is expected to play in.

Very, very good today. This kid will tear the comp apart when he gets to that 23-24 age bracket. What a draft selection.

Club needs to contact umpires Dept and ask for marking interference to be the rule of the week.

Wait for the Grand Final then have the rule enforced.

@Curly
Exactly my point. All over the ground. Stop the third player jumping in with no intent on the ball and the deliberate arm contact.
Make Marking Great Again.
