Memo to the Geary knockers
Yes he didn’t have a great game, but up to half time he had gone ok on Stewart. Don’t forget Stewart gets credited a stat for behind kick outs ( once he plays on ). So that inflates his stats
Anyway my point is we had 15 ordinary and tired players that is why we were thumped, not just our captain
Between Battle Membrey King Hill Hind and Butler 38 possessions!!
I think the answer lies more there than Geary

Love Geary but sorry he is cooked and is keeping a younger more dynamic player out of the side who could play his current role just as easily

We can't afford to have a 17 man side on the field just because someone is captain. On the other hand, what tonight revealed is that our depth is skin deep. All things considered, the sooner he makes way for someone else the better.

Re: Memo to the Geary knockers
but you'd know better than Ratts and others with first hand, day to day experience behind the scenes with awareness of what he brings to the group
you think that he's being kept in the team cos the coaches and others dont want to hurt his feelings and are somehow waiting to Gears to put up his hand and make the call himself?
doesnt work like that

Re: Memo to the Geary knockers
Geary's been a warrior but he really hasn't recovered from that horrific injury last year.
You can't say our depth is skin deep when the 'depth' remains on the sidelines.
Hopefully our selectors will choose the best 22 on form and fitness and not just seniority.

So on one hand you say we have no depth and on the other we need to move him on. Re: Memo to the Geary knockers
Gears has had a couple of good games this year, even kicked some goals.
But we are at a stage when he is probably costing ypung players game time and experience with not a huge amount of upside.
I can see him getting rested every couple of games.
Paton Clark and Coffield have gone past the skipper
That's the way it should be.
Nathan Brown called time, I don't think Gears will demand a spot much longer.
Has been a good captain and a courageous leader.

But to read the game thread or social media you would think it was all on him

Sorry but if we want to move forward then some decisions on Geary's future need to be made
If not by him then by the match committee

Re: Memo to the Geary knockers
Dunno what compute means, but the dilemma can only be resolved for the future. Put bluntly, it is better to experiment with whoever else is on our list even if they are duds. For example, Dylan Roberton is not a dud and should be brought in to replace Long who is.terry smith rules wrote: ↑Mon 10 Aug 2020 10:53pmSo on one hand you say we have no depth and on the other we need to move him on. Geary doesn’t have the ability to tie Robertson’s shoe laces
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Memo to the Geary knockers
Tough to come back from several weeks out with injury and go straight on to an All Australian whose side is dominant and is so much bigger physically. This game won't decide his future. We can be too quick on the harshness sometimes. Isn't his wife about to give birth - that also may have been on his mind. Be respectful and measured, yes.

Way too logical and serious after a smashing. I was expecting you to cheer me up with some humour

Re: Memo to the Geary knockers
Blaming Geary for playing on an inform forward above his height with the ball coming in high and very quickly over and over again because of boys upfield were overwhelmed. Sit back and think about the reality. We played a very young team that are tired with important players missing, against a very experienced and match hardened team with a few of their best coming into form. Think about what our boys would learn from this game and move on before many of you supporters (or baggers) have a heart attack.

Re: Memo to the Geary knockers
The biggest problem is he’s the captain, so he can’t really be dropped on form.

No worries, Roberton can get one of the trainers to tie his laces.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Tue 11 Aug 2020 12:47am Geary doesn’t have the ability to tie Robertson’s shoe laces

Bad game for Geary. Wasn't alone though. Everything just caught up with them.
We will rebound Sunday.

Bu, it was a very poor game from Gears last night. And he doesn't have the excuse of a three and a half day break. Sorry, normally a Gears supporter.

Re: Memo to the Geary knockers
Yep. I actually found it a little confronting watching Gears go 'round last night. Normally, Gears is rarely beaten one-on-one and he's make a terrific career out of this - for all of his skill execution issues; his desire and commitment to winning his personal battle can never be questioned. He's been very effective as a lockdown small forward at most times this year but, the Cats found a way to exploit his presence. Normally super agile on the deck yet last night, it looked like it had all caught up with him in a real hurry (bit like how Tex Walker has seemed to lose his aerial presence and kicking power really quickly).
I was hoping Gears could hold on til the end of the year but, it feels like Savage might have to come in if there's another performance like last night.

Re: Memo to the Geary knockers
Statistically this is, even allowing for the shortened quarters, his worst season even in most measures.
https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pc- ... rryn-geary
Never quick, he has probably lost a yard (or should I say metre ). At at only 183cm this also limits on who he can match up on. Other defenders this year also have better offensive sides.
Also this year his best games have been against North, Swans, Dockers,Crows and Blues.

To be fair - he started our run (and his new role as a defensive forward) by obliterating Jason Johannisen of the Dogs in R 2saintsRrising wrote: ↑Tue 11 Aug 2020 3:35pm Statistically this is, even allowing for the shortened quarters, his worst season even in most measures.
