Another great athlete with a bit of footy flair. But not a footballer. Lacks the consistency that comes with confidence in your craft.
Looks unstoppable at times but then tethers below average the rest of the time.

Re: Josh Bruce
His 4, 5, 6 goal games were very much the exception. Obviously loves playing against North Melbourne & must have looked dangerous against the Dogs.
Can take a mark but not enough of them. Terrific work rate but after a few years playing as a key forward, he still runs to poor spots mainly through lack of communication with his other forwards.

Re: Josh Bruce
Nope - he had one single game where he kicked 6 but, his output of 2 possessions has been more like the norm. He’s been a huge bust for the Dogs.

Re: Josh Bruce
Well he has not been good, but that is probably a bit too harsh
Tonight was his worst game.
He has had one great game, a couple of adequate games, 2 shockers including tonight and the rest poor.
Bruce may well be in StKilda trades the modern version of Cain Ackland who stunk it up at the Blues after leaving us on a 3 year high $ contract.
With Zak Jones being 3 years younger and just entering his prime years we look like winning this trade by a large margin even without whatever Byrnes ends up delivering to us.
Plus a player like Zak is more valuable for our own current needs than Bruce in his past average St Kilda form. So even if Bruce was playing better at the Dogs it would still have been a good trade for us.

Re: Josh Bruce
I dont understand the ill will here towards Bruce.
He left for a deal that we wouldn't give him.
And he's struggling. This bloke worked pretty hard for us over the journey.

Re: Josh Bruce
Nobody dislikes him, me think.
It is just everyone’s relief, a feeling that finally, we might be getting a string of wins on the trade side of things.
So many duds, for so long, and Hanners, lest we forget, is the still our trade flagship, is looking pretty bad, but these new successes are like the cruisers and battle cruisers, providing a great smoke screen so we can’t notice the damage.
So seeing Bruce and Stevo struggling is just a bit of extra brandy in the punch.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

The Saints and Swans confirmed on Friday that they had agreed to terms on a trade that would see the star midfielder join St Kilda. The Swans have traded Hannebery and pick 28 to the Saints, and received pick 39 and St Kilda's 2019 second-round pick in return.
Our 2019 second-round pick ended up being:
25. Sydney (originally received from St Kilda in 2018)

Re: Josh Bruce
Sydney had to offload Hannebury because of salary cap.
Franklin may not be spending much more time on the park than Hannebury but he is still costing Sydney a fortune.
Sydney sold their future for instant gratification to get Franklin.
Now they are paying the price.
SALARY: $1,400,000-$1,450,000
COVID SALARY: $1,008,000-$1,044,000
Franklin is due $1.4 million in the third-last season of his nine-year contract.
He hasn't won a flag for the Swans
The contract lifts to $1.5 million in 2021 before dropping to about $1 million in 2022.

Re: Josh Bruce
Josh was easily out thought by Port defence. Looks clueless at times and missed a couple he should have caught - no composure. Does he even use his size to soften up defences, not sure - often photoed fourth in line with head down, ball held high by opponent. Affection but not missed in a practical sense.

I agree with the value in terms of Jones v Bruce on just about all measurements for where the club is and where it is heading.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Mon 03 Aug 2020 11:15pm

Sadly your summary of Bruce's year to date mirrors his career at St Kilda if I was to be brutally honest. A few more adequate than poor but that's probably more a reflection on the Club during that period, not so much Bruce.

With all due respect, it's the $$$ given up for a bloke who cannot physically play anymore that simply can't be ignored. Good to see us nail other trades though, it's about time!saintsRrising wrote: ↑Tue 04 Aug 2020 4:31amIf you ignore the $$$ Hannas cost little in trade cost.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Tue 04 Aug 2020 1:58am

Re: Josh Bruce
one thing I remember about Bruce, is about 2 years ago, when he was dropped to Sandringham, he played against Liam Jones of the Northern Blues.
Jones had been a fringe player at the Blues, their version of Tom Lee, I suppose.
Well, Liam Jones got a BOG on Bruce, getting 17 possessions and 10 marks, I think.
Maybe a week or two later, Jones got his first senior game in ages.
So Bruce ran a guy into form, a solid tryer with a little bit of skill, making the defender look much better

Re: Josh Bruce
That game was in a complete bog at Coburg oval. Rainy and slippery. And Bruce made Liam Jones into a very good CHB that day. Completely re-invigorated Jones' career after being a spasmodic forward (largely hopeless at it).WellardSaint wrote: ↑Tue 04 Aug 2020 2:25pm one thing I remember about Bruce, is about 2 years ago, when he was dropped to Sandringham, he played against Liam Jones of the Northern Blues.

Jones should be sending Josh a Xmas card for life - he got a new contract off the back of that game and then a reasonable 2nd half of the season in the 1s as a key backman (where he played really well).

Should get dropped.
