Brett Ratten
Wow hasn’t he turned a group of average players into a good team !
Not one household name, a few players with potential
Recruiting players we needed and most importantly fitted into the group
A bit of luck but a lot of hard work
Hope is alive finally
Well done Saints and Ratts.

Re: Brett Ratten
And, except for a bit of straight kicking that we have seen in the last two weeks, we would be 8/1 and on top - with some hard games to play though. However, third with some hard games to play will have to do.saints66 wrote: ↑Sun 02 Aug 2020 9:20am Wow hasn’t he turned a group of average players into a good team !

Re: Brett Ratten
Ratts seems a good communicator and has the respect of the players, and some astute recruiting has made a big difference. I think equally as important is the appointment of David Rath - he is no doubt one of the main players in rejigging the Saints game plan based on the players we now have, and keeping us at the forefront in game strategies.

Re: Brett Ratten
Players look and play a lot better when they’re having fun, which Ratten’s gameplan allows them.

Re: Brett Ratten
Bump
I thought he coached brilliantly tonight against the Suns. We were beaten in clearances and beaten in contested ball. Our mids were beaten on the whole. They couldn’t find space. We were struggling to create opportunities for our forwards to lead. Shane Savage’s style might have actually suited the game...but in any case Ratts found a way to manage his troops and motivate them, inspire them and coach them to their 4th win in a row
I think we have a terrific football department and the head coach is going to give this club another shot imo. Have a look at what is happening with some of the newbie coaches like Nicks, Goodwin etc... We made the right decision getting someone with experience. He has learnt from one of the best coaches in the modern era and from one of the best run football clubs in the modern era.
I thought from all the preseason videos that there was a long term plan in place to educate the squad and build towards being consistently good. He was aiming for excellence and aiming for the right squad so that we could be contenders, but you could sense as the year unfolded that we had a good mix and that the competitive spirit in the players (and in the coach) meant that we could be contenders sooner rather than later...sorry...pinched that last line from the Duck

Re: Brett Ratten
We shouldn't have won that one.
Ratten and Butler conjured a win.
Got smashed in clearances but backline did very well again
Coffield went another step towards the next level.
Ratten has filled them with belief

Re: Brett Ratten
I never felt like we wouldnt win. I was certain that we had the skill, desire and ability to win a hard fought victory. We were out-played in the midfield but were still able to win. For most of the game, for me, the expectations were that we would break the Suns and run away with it. The Suns were very good. They didn't break but we did enough to win and our young draft guys and Butler came up with the goods. Clark, Coffield and Battle really stood up in the second half. The signs are very good. 4 points banked.
